HS coaches: do you allow parents, etc to watch practices or do you prefer to keep it closed?

At Enka, practices are not closed, but parents are not allowed anywhere near the field. Most park at the top of the hill and watch through the fence.

    not allowed?

Ok Enka, if you are not allowed near the field, doesn't that mean that they are closed?

The same is true at our school, always kind of thought it was rather ridiculous, but after being in travel ball and watching those practices, what they did in HS always left me rather disappointed.

    just to clarify

so coach has a policy that parents not watch up close next to the field?

why would parents be there at practice to watch? Not counting those that may be there to pick up their kid if their kid does not yet drive.

    open but with limits

I DO NOT allow parents on the field, they can watch from their cars, or sit in the stands on top of the hill, but not on the field, not near the fence and no verbal communication is allowed between them and the players. this is based on past experiences - not good experiences - and seems to work for all. the last thing i need is for a parent to start yelling at their dd when i'm trying to teach them something, i need these players to relax and absorb everything i'm trying to teach.
