Enka played KM at KM 3 years ago and moved on to the State Tournament to finish runner up. That was 2004. This is what CanAm was referring too. And there was an unbelievable crowd at that game. Probably the biggest crowd I have seen other than the Enka-Pisgah Game in 2004.

Thanks for the correction & I don't know what I was thinking it was 2006 & 2004 that KM & Enka played.

Cheese.... You are correct that travel ball & HS ball are 2 different animals & is not good to compare each.!!

I'm talking about the coaches poll, not the final rankings.

The percentage that made it to the second round is correct. To clarify my earlier post, polls are never 100% accurate. Therefore they should only be used as a general indicator. As far as who's #1, #2, etc., it's fun to look at but never the gospel.

The polls point fans toward the better teams in the state. If most of the teams that make it to the finals were mentioned in the polls, then one could probably say that the polls did their job. Out of the 16 final four teams only three (3A Harnett Central, 3A CB Aycock, and 2A North Pitt) managed to come in under the radar with no mention at all during the season.

It wasn't perfect, but wasn't bad either considering the number of softball teams they had to choose from.

Cheeze, you've got to be kidding. IN all the years I have read the posts on TBR in Softball very seldom does a topic stay on track. I have seen posts here about rankings, travel teams, practices open or closed, etc. Just the way people post and the way a conversation plays out. Or it could be that its just easier to change topic than start a new thread....???? lol

put the thread back on track

To put it back on track.

In school ball, practices should be open until an observer creates a problem, or until so many observers show up that they create a distraction. A good coach will be on top of this.

Rules concerning middle school practice probably need to be more strict with an eye toward prevention of problems. Thats the age where kids are beginning to learn independence. The parents need to let them go. Most MS kids don't want their parents on site at practice. Maybe keep the numbers low or observe from a distance.

Travel ball is a different animal. The parents are footing the bill or doing the fundraising, and spending the time. The weekend tournaments in most cases tend to be family outings. There's not much point in restricting practice in travel ball.

Sorry, but I misinterpeted your point as you seemed to lump all nationals together in your comment. Thanks for making your point clearer as I was in no way trying to stir anything up.
