    Thanks but....

I do appreciate your responses and they do help. I know that everyone should pick a sport and stick to it which is great. However, my DD likes to play softball and basketball and I would be wrong to ask her to give either one of them up. (Because I would really love that, less time, stress and $$ on me). Her first priority is school and w/ that, Academic scholarship. Sports are the icing in the cake.

With that said, I just would like to know how it works. I only played softball and my other daughter just plays softball, so I am not sure how it works in HS when you do play 2 overlapping sports, not two in the same season or 4 or 5 all year long. Cheerleading may not be too much of a big issues because one is played in the fall and spring. Basketball/softball are winter, spring.

I know my newphews play football and basketball and it defiantley overlapps, but it works out for them because the coaches are good friends, but that is not always the case and it may be different for boys?

First of all are you saying that your kid is in it for the fun of it only?? There is no desire in her to play college sports???The majority of kids that play sports in todays times are thinking about college play..I can ask 10 people and 8-10 will say that their kid is playing toward college possibilities...I'm not trying to deprive any kid for playing sports, but if you do play for a team that depends on you being there, and you get injuried because you are playing multiple sports, and preventing another kid from reaching her goals because your kid is out due to an injury because of over-laping sports " IS THAT FAIR ???".. I have a suggestion if you are in it for the fun of it,and there is no college play desire in your kid, don't play travel ball of any sort, because 90% of the kids that play travel are looking to play college ball...I'll agree,it will be a low percent that get there, but don't let little Janey with her multiple sports and more of a chance to get injuries keep Susan from reaching her goals...remember you are in it for the fun of it !!!! By the way you must have a very talented kid...Thank GOD Above !!!....but if you are in it for the fun of it ONLy Have Fun....... COOL ENJOY!!!!------------ GURU

My experience in travel ball is that for a young lady to try committ to two travel type sports (ex:softball basketball). One of the two sports will suffer. It's not fair to either team if a player misses practices and/or games and then when she returns, expects to play. What do you tell the kid who hasn't missed anything if the 2 sport kid plays in front of her?

Rec basketball and travel ball work OK together, but not AAU BB, soccer and TB. I think kids should play as many sports as they can and then as they age, they need to start narrowing it down.

HS school sports are a little different, but I would encourage playing the sports you enjoy. At some point for a great player in one sport, it becomes a risk/reward type of thing. That's a personal decison for her to make (with some guidance from her parentals.)

If you go & tell all the kids that if they are not wanting to play college ball they should not be playing travell and see what happens. I think you would get told where to go & if you want I will be the first to tell you..... you are just a little to arogant to think that everyone playing wants to play after college. I know three girls that played travel ball & hs ball till they graduated & they are in college and have no desire to play.

You probably would not have to many tournaments either!!!

You are missing the point !!!! Travel Ball was not designed like rec ball...its main purpose was to take the better pool of talent and nurture it to college play..rec ball on the other hand is for fun ONLY !!!, never intended for furthering skills....and you shouldn't pass judgement on me, you don't even know me....most of my friends think I'm a nice guy,and fun to hang around...hey if you want to play (9) sports go right ahead, the real issue isn't multiple sports it's the control of what someone might tell you what you can or can't do....Think About It !!! Which is worse Arrogancy or Pride ???-------- HMMMMMMMMMMM ?????------- Guru through with this thread.....:gaga:

    not play both

some HS softball coaches ask / require girls not to play TB during the HS season (or at least maybe the first 1/2 or 2/3 of it).

    there are

there are some good rec ball coaches out there too that have solid baseball / softball backgrounds.
Good fundamentals taught the proper way; it doesn't matter if that training is coming from a rec ball coach or TB coach, in the early years like 10U & 12U.

    agreed

    agree with ya, Can-Am.
wonder if there's any solid stat's out there as to the % of girls that play TB for say at least 3 years between the ages of 13-18 that actually end up getting scholarships and playing college softball. I bet you'd be surprised that it is a low number.
