I think you need to get a life to be honest. I have a question for you? Do you have a DD playing 8U travel ball? I think there are is more to life than playing travel ball at the age of 8 years old...good grief. Like Dawg said playing locally is one thing but to be able to justify paying for motels, enry fees, team fees, eating, gas at that age just doesn't cut it. And speaking of how I spent my money, it was on both, but not until 12U on travel team and then local tournaments. My DD played rec ball and we went on vacations. Wanted her to know there was also life outside of softball. I do not believe you gain anything by playing travel ball at the age of 8. They are still trying to learn the game and spending that time teaching them is time better spent.

Ya'all chill. most wonderful thing i saw this year was a group of 8u players who sang "take me out to the ball game" before their game. awesome and bought tears to my eyes. i think 8u is too young, but just my two cents. keep it civil guys, just a discussion.

Okay---you've made your point, but what I do with my money is my business, hey make a vacation out of it...there are a lot of tournaments that take you out to the beach,mts.,etc.....did you know by the age three a child has developed his or her personality..if you don't believe me ask a child psychologist...who listens better a child at 8 or a child at 12???...it's a lot easier to teach an 8 year old than a teeneager, they are a little more intimidated by an adult....apparently you have not reached the teenage years....or you have a compliant child....if you do be thankful!!!......... You made my point for me....easier to work with them while they are willing to learn but not yet fully developed physically, at home, on the field 1 on 1. My girls are grown. We may wish for them to love the game but we may find out that by early teen years they would rather be doing anything else, and if thats the case then I haven't spent all that money on ball tournaments. But, I agree with you make those tournaments at the younger ages a vacation experience as well if you really feel the need to travel and play at that early age.

How do you get to college level if you don't start at an early age??
You,that are against 8 & Under Travel Ball have really got me confused on your point...did you know by the age 14 a young girl should be fully knowledgeable of the game...if you start at age 12, you'll never catch up to the kids that started at the early age of 8 to be successfull in marketing yourself to a recruiting coach...it is virtually impossible...I guess what you need to ask yourself if college play is what your daughter wants to do...........or rec only !!!!

I don't need to spend a fortune going to tournaments to get them ready. I can get more out of time spent on the ballfield at home and playing rec ball than traveling. My DD did both. Go figure.
