Well, well, well. McDowell actually catches a break for once this year. Finally glad to be on the good side of the score for once. I listened to this game until it was 21-14, then the signal started going in and out. Glad that something good finally happened to the Titans. By the way, it's AMES, not Haynes.

It was the Terrence Kincaid show tonight at Icard. If he gets outside there is no catching him. The kicking game looked 100% better tonight, but our defense gave up 28 points in the second half. East Burke scored with less than 2 minutes left in the game to make the score 28-27. MHS gets the ball back and drives down the field to the nine, and Haynes comes in and kicks the field goal for the win with 2.8 seconds left in the game.

Just to verify the kicker's name is Steven Hames. Actually Hames is a nice story in the fact that he is a senior and wanted to experience his last year of High School to the fullest extent. So he decided to play football, a game he had never played before. Without a doubt tonight's game winner will be one Steven will remember for the rest of his life. And as you said blockhead...finally something falls the Titan's way.

Mooresville escapes Lake Norman in seven OTs
By Larry Sullivan, Media General News Service
    Saturday, October 14, 2006

    MOORESVILLE - Whew!

On Friday the 13th, lady luck and her sister superstition took turns smiling on and piling on the football teams from Mooresville and Lake Norman.

The Blue Devils finally scored the only points logged in during a seventh - yes seventh - overtime period to pull out a 68-61 triumph in the Wildcats Den.

“I just don’t know what to say,” Mooresville coach Barclay Marsh said. “Words cannot describe what took place out here tonight.”

    Indeed.

After the Blue Devils (3-5 overall, 2-2 North Piedmont 3A) registered a tying touchdown in the final 16 seconds of regulation play on quarterback Sam Allen’s 1-yard keeper to tie it at 26-all and send it into overtime.

That’s where matters really turned wild.

The teams traded blows over six straight overtimes, each of them scoring in all but one OT period. The long-awaited turning point came more than three hours after kickoff as the Devils took their last lead on Jishaun Pinkston’s 10-yard scoring scamper to open the seventh OT set.

The Wildcats (1-7, 1-3) tried to answer yet again but the night’s third pass interception from Mooresville defensive back Antron Parker thwarted that bid.

“Our guys,” said Marsh, “man, they just didn’t quit. So many times, one play here or there could have meant the difference in this game. We’re going to enjoy this one for a while.”

The feeling wasn’t quite as positive on the home Wildcats side of the field.

“Man,” Lake Norman running back Jay Little said, “it sure would have felt good to beat them. We’ve never done that before. And nobody picked us to win. We came close.”

Lake Norman quarterback Zach Connell helped see to that. Connell connected on seven touchdown passes, including a stretch of three straight during the fourth, fifth and six overtime sequences. A bid at an eighth TD came up dry on Parker’s game-clinching interception.

Connell spread around his damage, hooking up on scores with Tyler McRorie, Ryan Wassman and Lafayette McCain in regulation and connecting with Wassman twice and Little once during the overtime periods.

For the Devils, Parker returned a pick for the first score, with Braxton Brannon and Allen each punching home touchdown runs in regulation.

In overtime, the Devils collected a pair of TD passes from Allen to Jamel Allison in addition to two scoring runs each by Allen and Pinkston - whose second scratch made the difference - and a one-yard plow from Brannon.
