    Providence High School

Providence (CLT) moves into Round Three versus Weddington tomorrow, October 27. It's been a great season for the girls with only one loss - to Person H.S. at the Great Eight Tournament on August 25. The Panthers have lost only four additional games since that night - two to Myers Park (the first two and then an amazing comeback to win 3 games to 2), one to South Meck, and then another to Myers Park at their second conference match up. Congrats to all the teams that have finished their seasons and to those who are still playing. The playoffs seem to be full of great teams and great girls!

all you volleyball guru's: from the posts, some of the HS's obviously have great v-ball programs. do your girls play any kind of club volleyball in addition to HS?

I saw an eastern HS v-ball coach quoted that his team had run into a very strong team in the playoffs that had several girls playing club volleyball; & he wanted to encourage his girls' to do that to build up the program to "the next level". I know those girls and most are also softball players that play serious travel softball on weekends in most parts of the year. so what came to mind for me was where do kids and parents draw the line? there's only so many hr's in a day, so many days in a week, so many weeks in a yr for these multi-sport athletes.........know what I mean??

Yes, most teams that have very good v-ball programs do play club ball. On our team as a matter of fact, nine out of the ten girls played jo ball last winter. I know it is a real pain on the parents, especially if they play basketball or softball to. But they are girls on our JO team that do play other sports. My daughter plays volleyball year-round and nothing else. But you are absolutely correct, it does take alot of time and money. But also I think club ball is where the girls really learn to play the game. High school coaches just don't have the time to teach what JO coaches teach. So I guess you have to ask yourself and your daughter what she likes to play best. My daughter chose volleyball, and in return has landed a athletic scholarship to play in college. I really feel she would have never accomplished this if she had only played high school ball. And alot of high school coaches are now telling there girls to play club ball, simply because if they don't there program will never compete with the schools whose girls do.
