I'm just trying to pick some brains here. What should be the work out concentration in the off season come November? What has or hasn't worked for any of you? Do you continue with hitting/ fielding drills or work on strength? What my DD is currently doing is strength/speed workouts with a little hitting and fielding mixed in with a few tournys here and there. Also where does the concern for "burn out" fall? Is there a time to shut down completely and relax? I'm looking at the possibility of shutting down from Dec. to mid Jan then working softball in slowly cause once March comes in the pace picks up until Nov. again. According to my DD she would go every day, but I worry when is too much? Thoughts?

This is pretty close to what we do. running, weight lifting, throwing exercises, fielding drills, and hitting, hitting, hitting. pitchers working out weekly with their pitching coaches. we stop drills for everyone except pitchers/catchers during the month of dec and start back up first of jan. pitchers/catches work inside/outside depending on weather. serious 8 player workouts start in jan, rotating 8 per day all week long. taking dec off eliminates burnout, dec is busy for everyone anyway. have started doing something else this year - classroom type training - films, training videos, situation play, kids like it and seem to grasp video faster than verbal field training.

My DD is 16 yrs now,Gotta have that balance. The older they get, more to life than ball.Anyway, after our last tour in Nov, we will put everything away,I'll try my best to not discuss ball till Jan. 1st of yr, start back cleaning up mechanics, & hitting it hard. I think the time off is good for them, those bodies need some rest after almost a yr of ball. What works best for us may not for someone else.

If they are hungry for it, feed it to them
If not, chill for a few weeks, pick up the gloves on the best weather days and just have fun enjoying the weather.
Come early feb jump back in full throttle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree if they are hungry for it feed it to them. My DD wants to work all winter she might take two to three weeks off all year. She might not be on the field but either lifting, running or in an indoors batting cages. Different strokes for different folks.

    P.S
Softball Nut you can't go two days, more less two months without talking about softball. I know that for a fact.:rotflmao:
