Fun? What's more Fun than Baseball?

Fun Trip? When I played he'd be GONE! And he better hope so 'cause if not the boys I played with would have taken him behind the dugout for some corrective action.

Some people just don't get it and thus will never truly 'belong.' It's a Cult. A cult with strange unspoken rules and beliefs. With it's own gods and endless debates. It's a game where you get out what you put in. It's even got it's own karma that you don't dare mess with.

I wonder if Henry Aaron's mommy and daddy took little Henry to the beach or skiing during the season?

    What a great reply...

but a little known fact about Hank Aaron. It was Prepster that advised Henry that swinging cross handed was not the best way to hit the ball.....and it wasn't when they were at the beach that Prepster suggested it.

I think its ok to miss if you have at least 2 places with broken bones...
if its just a broke ankle or an arm... then its not ok to miss...

everyone needs and deserves a "vacation" and you need to understand that these KIDS do not have much if any time throughout the school year and summer between academics and baseball seasons. I've seen this first hand with my brother and to have players and coaches beat him down mentally was not very constructive but more destructive, so it basically depends on what you want the outcome to be. If you want bad karma then handle the problem a bad or complaining attitude. If you want good karma then be a little more compationate with the player and let him know how much you appreciate him. I know these players get benefits from playing baseball at different levels, but it is not without sacrifice from the player and their family so give them what they deserve. What if your employer told you "if you go to the beach next month then just take the rest of the year off". :flaming: Please let me be clear and say that no player deserves "special" treatment so be fair and consistent with any action you take and do it with a good attitude so not to discourage the player or team. :rank8: THANK YOU, I WILL BE HERE ALL NIGHT! NOT!!!!

I understand what you are saying, but the question is about HS ball.

    a spin

Want to add a slightly different spin on this topic since I posted it on both the baseball & softball forums.
The spin: Would a game absence for a personal trip (requested well in advance) be perceived differently for a girl (softball) vs. a boy (baseball)?

There are a few excused absenses....
college visits, mandatory school functions etc...
advance notice of a religious function
broken legs... (you can still run with a broken arm... )

but to visit Aunt Suzy on her 65th birthday is not one of them..
and to be sick when you know your running suicides or poles .. no excuse..

i think once a player reaches middle school ball... Parents need to stay in the bleachers...its a tough 6 years but deal with it...

a high school season is not very long. If a kid has thinks they need a break for a "fun trip" he needs to seriously question if he wants his baseball to continue after high school. The time for "fun trips" will only get less and less. I play college baseball and also play in the Coastal Plains League, which in a years time includes around 150 games. We have been at school for about 3 months and have had 3 days off. On those days off you are expected to get work in on your own. If you are worried about how much time you will have for "Fun trips", you mind want to try to find a university with a well organized intramural program.
