Congratulations to Andy and the Dirtbags for once again finishing in the top four teams in Jupiter. Make no mistake, this is the premier event of the year for HS players. Over a very short time, the Dirtbags have become one of the top amateur programs in the country. And most impressive is the fact that Andy does it primarliy with NC players, while the other elite programs recruit on a national basis. It says a lot about his ability as a coach and about the quality of talent in North Carolina.

It varies from state to state, county to county and in some cases, country to country. Some are on Fall breaks.

Usually, the one game played on Thursday night is played by Florida teams. Speaking in terms of NC, most players miss Friday and if the team is talented and lucky, Monday, too.

My son attended 3 years and it never interfered with his schoolwork.

My hearfelt congratulations go out to Andy Partin and the Dirtbags. WNCBB hit the nail on the head. Poor Andy keeps getting close each year. I believe he finished in 3rd place last year also. 3 out of the last 4 years a NC team has finished 3rd at WWBA World Series. It sure does say a lot about the talented players competing in NC

It all depends on the school schedule, when you start playing, and how far you go. My son's team didn't start play until Friday morning and was in the bracket with the Red's Scout Team so we didn't make the playoff bracket. He missed a day and a half of school.

Some of the teams (I believe 8) started playing on Thursday evening and could continue on through Monday afternoon so you could miss 3 days if you start early and finish late and don't have any time off from school. You could also miss one more day if you drive down the day before play begins. It usually falls somewhere in between.

Also, a note about the Reds Scout Team that won the tournament. They were pretty good size. They looked larger on the field than they were listed on thier roster. My son is 6'2" about 215 and they had numerous players that appeared taller and thicker than he. They had a short stop that was big and their outfielders were big and fast. Of course, that may be why most people were talking about them when we got there as being the team to beat and why they drew so many scouts to watch them.
