I know some girls that were juniors (now seniors) last year and wanted to go to the beach but were told they had a tourny to play. Now that they are seniors this year what do you think they will want to do?

It really depends on the girl. Like I said earlier, I know of plenty of young ladies who have given up a Sr. beach trip to play ball. Now some may head down during the week, but they are back in time to play on the weekend.

The senior's who are still playing, most likely are girls who have signed and want to play to get ready for their freshaman year.

"hs stats are in the eyes of the beholder, they really dont mean squat, the scorekeepers, to be generous, are not professional"

Well said, How about Can-Am and MS coaching the west

Maybe with a All State game more coaches will take a more serious look at their players and in keeping correct stats and actually recommending the ones that are deserving of this honor.Too often stats are inflated to match a coach's ego and in HS the level of play between teams from good to bad give no true reflection on stats.Take the HS playoff stats and use them for selection and forget regular season stuff.

    stats

Stats are many times inaccurate because the "scorekeeeper" does not know the difference between earning a base hit and reaching base due to an error by a defensive player or a fielders choice. Just not always possible to get a competent, knowledgable person to keep score consistently and many coaches just don't put adequate effort into finding that the right person to keep the score.

I would be willing to put money on it that the majority of the Srs who do make "allstar team" will be playing ball in college.

Softball Nut is right and he has the PROOF In The Pudding...his kid is one heck of a ballplayer, and she should make that team with ease, and her goals are to play college ball...hey just lately (8) Lady Blues Srs. just got partial or full scholarships to colleges...to make an all-star team coaches pick the players that demostrate talent to the next level by hard work if done correctly, and most these kids will continue to college play... you know WHY ??? Because its in their BLOOD,and most these kids would give up their Summers after Summers to play the GAME.............Softball Nut has SPOKEN with much WISDOM !!!............ SEE YOU AT THE BEACH..........GURU

    There is no "fair" way!

Everyone had better understand that there is no PRACTICAL way to determine the best few dozen players in the state. Tryouts are out of the question. You are already asking travel ball coaches to give up these kids for one weekend. Tryouts would necessarily have to be scheduled on a weekend between the end of the hs playoffs and the all-star game. . . simply not practical. Look, this is a great concept as long as it doesn't become too complicated. There is not way to please everyone. Look at just the issue of pitching. I know who the best pitcher in the state is but I bet its not the girl you're thinking of! So if I'm the coach do I throw her all seven or let the #4 pitcher in the state have some innings?

The most objective (and practical way) to approach this would be to create a checklist and list nominees (P/C/IF/OF) in four categories and send it to all the college coaches in the state. Any player worthy of playing in this game would be known to the majority of these coaches even if she was not intending to play college ball. They would be allowed to vote for X number of players in category. Then rank girls based on returns and invite them until you had enough agree to play. This way no one involved in HS softball would get ripped the pitcher that I know is the best in the state was not selected. The trick would be the checklist. Can't rely on all conference lists as these are often very late.

    Thank You!

Thanks for all the wonderful commentary. The NCFSCA is excited about the opportunities that lie ahead in the next few months with these games. We knew there would be a great deal of interest from the Softball people and the posts on this board surely reflect that. There have been lots of good ideas mentioned and we are taking notes. Keep those thoughts and ideas rolling in. This is our first endeavor at All-Star games and we want to do our best to make them a worthwhile experience for all who are involved. The State Games of North Carolina and the NCFSCA are working in concert to get some of the major details worked out. Keep the suggestions flowing.
