    Hey
I may be the only one posting on this thread but I thought there may be other parents or freinds with ladies on the JV teams. The papers are not going to print anything so this can be a way to get a little info on the future Varsity teams. I will start with the Freedom ladies. Like most JV teams the strength is the guard play. Saudia and Shannon are both sophmores so they have experince and will pressure the ball at every opportunity. Brittiany is a freshman but is a true point who will be a leader on the floor. Sherrane seems likely to be first off the bench and being a sophmore she knows what is expected. In the post Mandy and Brooke both can play either post or wing so the team can go big if needed and Mandy can be a scorer if she gets hot. If the defense breaks down and a team goes inside they will have Kelly waiting for them. She is 6'0 and has a long wing span so she will make it tough on defense. Like the varsity they are young but the bench will give quality minutes so over all the team should be very competitive .

    Freedom JV action 11-28

Freedom JV won 46-30 over TCR tuesday. It looks pretty in the win column but it was a ugly played game! Freedom has great guard play but they just played tight most of the game. Poor passing and missed lay ups didnt hurt in this game but down the road it will. Not to get down on them, after all the reason Freedom won was pressure defense up top and solid post play down low. Free throws were awfull , I dont know the total numbers but at one point freedom was 2-13 on free throws . A couple of observations... as said, the guards are the strength of the team but freedom needs to start working the ball inside a little... with a line up of two 5'10 ladies and a 6'0 ft center why not make the other teams try to stop them! Plus they will run into teams that can match up with the guards in league play and they better be used to getting it inside when needed. One thing is for sure.. until a team can show they can beat freedom's pressure they should win most of their games.

    Freedom JV 12-1-06

Freedom wins big over Hibriten 71-33

I am sure it wasnt because of what i said in my last post but Freedom FINALLY started working the ball inside. All the post players really stepped it up tonight.. they was getting tons of rebounds, scoring like crazy and just being tough and aggressive the whole game. I know some may say it was because it was against Hibriten but they had better post players than Asheville or TC Roberson.. if they had better guard play they would be hard to beat. Brittany had another great night pressuring the ball and scoring but what really stood out was how she looked to get the post players involved. One player the greatly benefitted was Kelly who played with passion tonight! If she can keep that mind-set every game she will be a force in the middle. Brooke had another solid game of scoring and getting some tough rebounds and Mandy is just a smooth player thats fun to watch. If Mandy gets a little more confident handling the ball they could keep her on the wing and have 3 girls over 5'10 at the same time. Thats not normal for most JV teams and they all can play so it will be interesting to see if this may happen. Thats not to downplay Shannon's play.. she has been as good as anyone but just the size factor would be tough to beat. Overall this was Freedoms best game so far.

    Freedom JV - Dec 5

    Freedom loses to Crest 28-25

Sometimes teams just have a game that needs to be quickly forgotten.. case in point!! To put the game in perspective just close your eyes and go back a few years to a rec league game. Remember the frantic pace, the wild shots and one turnover after another? That was what it was like tuesday for both teams. I will say they used a RUNNING CLOCK , who does that in a high school game? It didnt help matters that the refs took forever getting the ball in play and every foul shot took 45 secs of the clock as they wanted to talk to the players instead of giving the ball to the shooter. As for the game itself.... Freedom started the big line-up with 3 post players as Crest has some size and the post players hit the boards pretty good for the most part but with shots going wild rebounds went all over the place. One problem was Freedom never settled down long enough to run their offense, they would beat the press and either take a quick shot or force a bad pass. I would hate to guess how many turnovers they had.... and to not pick on the guards too much the post players missed some point blank shots as well. The post players worked hard as Crest was very physical and had some wide bodies but the pace of the game didnt allow for much of an inside game. It was just a crazy game and I am sure when Crest comes to freedom on dec 20 they will slow it down and should use the size they have to win the rematch.

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
Just curious, exactly how does this help the kids learn the game? I thought the JV's were for the kids to get experience for the Varsity level, not to get the game over with as quick as possible. I guess we are telling the kids their game isn't all that important now.

    Running Clock/Schedules

We did a running clock in rec in NJ. I hate they use a running clock for two reasons in CMS. 1) I can't see how the kids can really enjoy the game and learn something as an earlier poster stated and 2). I leave work early and everytime except 1, I never saw my daughter play.

I'm a little disappointed in the CMS basketball schedule. I can only compare from SC and NJ.

No running clock and JV Girls/Varsity Girls played home and boys were away or the opposite OR Varisty Boys/Varisty Girls played home and JV was away and then the opposite. All games started at 4:45 to accomodate other school activities, parent involvement and children getting home at a decent hour.

    Just my opinion.

    Running clock

I am sure part of the reason is to get the kids home at a decent hour but there needs to be another way if that is what they are trying to do. Not sure if it was the running clock or not but in this game everyone seemed to be rushed and never settled down so I dont think either team gained anything worthwhile.

I'm with Reynoldsrocks on the issue that JV's is a learning tool for the next level and that they shouldn't be cheated out of a normal game setting just because of time issues.

In reference to rookiemom's comments about splitting up time and locations for games if CMS or any other school system wants to split I would rather split by JV/Varsity ranks instead of by gender. To an upperclassmen student, you can't support all your athletes when girls varsity and boys varsity play at different sites. The other issue with splitting locations is...Is it financially worth opening up the visiting gym for two games when you might not have 50 people at the game? Are the schools gonna be able to talk faculty into staying extra hours to operate the facility for such a small crowd (take gate money, clock operator, consession stand and refs into account). To me it would seem like it would cost a lot of money to split things up.

Just courious...what time does CMS dismiss schools each afternoon?
