Yes indeed, from what I have heard the McDowell JV's are playing at the R-S Central Tournament...

The Lady Titan JV's beat Alexander Central 42-30 friday night. they are now 7-0 on the season (1-0 NW4A) and will be in action on Wednesday against Roberson.

    East Burke JV

I am not at all surprised they are doing well. I know Keeona and LaSashia from AAU ball and both are really good players... they would be varsity for alot teams. Not to mention Heritage and East Burke Middle has been at the top of the middle schools along with the McDowell schools the last 2 years so they have the talent. East Burke should be solid for atleast the next few years.

    McDowell JV

Wouldn't you feel slapped in the face if you were one of the Varsity teams playing in the tournment.. McDowell sends their JV team!! It should be a good experince for them and I think they will do ok with the competition. I know it isnt meant this way at all but it would make me feel a little slighted if I was on the other teams.

Well, it may be more the case that there was a last minute change by one of the schools originally committed in which the folks at R-S had to find a replacement.

Freedom JV - Lose to Crest 45-37

So how many times have you heard that free throws can make or break a team? Freedom went 12-36 .. thats 33% in case anyone was wondering!! If they would have shot just 55% they would have had a chance to win the game but thats the way it goes sometimes. The game was as intense as most Varsity games as Crest tried to intimidate Freedom with their aggressive play like they did last game but it didnt work this time. In fact Crest got so frustrated with the way Freedom matched their tough play they got a couple of technicals....if only Freedom could have capitalized at the line. Last game Crest totally dominated the boards and the post players pushed Freedom around but this time I saw a little bit of fight that will bode well for conference play. I think its not as much the post of Freedom dont put forth the effort as much as they just dont have the bulk of some of the other teams. Mandy, Kelly and Brooke have more talent than any of the girls they have went up againist so far but they are long and lean so sometimes its just a matter of weight and space instead of heart. The guard play was good tonight but the shots just wasnt falling for them and did I mention the free throws?:headslap: I dont want to take anything away from Crest as they played a VERY aggressive game and made the shots when they needed too so they earned the win but Freedom should be proud of the way they stood toe to toe with them. If they play that hard every game then they will have a chance to win every time.

McDowell's JV team plays the Shelby Varsity team next week at RS Central. Can a JV team beat a varsity team? Does anyone know how good the Shelby girls are this year? Never hear much about them.

Shelby girls, from what I hear are not that good. They beat Burns 37-29 not long ago and I think that is their only win. Take that for what it s worth. if McDowell JV's were to win, they would face the Butler/Crest winner the next day.

    JV vs Varsity

Shelby is 6-1 or 7-1 They are a 3A school. Dont know about who they have played but from the record they seem to be pretty decent. As for a JV team beating a Varsity team it depends somewhat on how the JV react to the speed and size of the Varsity players. I have seen some really good freshmen get a case of "big eyes" and play really tight when playing with the varsity. One thing going for the JV team is the fact they are expected to lose so if they play well and keep it close the Varsity team may feel the pressure more and start messing up. Never really know how a team will react till it happens but I would think McDowell's JV team would be a little more prepared than most as I am sure some of them have played with the Varsity in practice or scrimmage .

    Dan and tman,

Both you guys are wrong in certain ways. I don't watch Shelby, but I do live there.

Dan, their girl's team has had success in recent years, including this one. tman is probably close on the record. They are probably a little better than East Rutherford this year. They have had the Montgomery sisters (one graduated last year, I think, one is still there). The older one is probably playing in college).

tman, Shelby is 2A (reigning back to back 2A State Champs in football, (with another Montgomery quarterbacking, HaHa - Great Job!).

I will pull for Coach Brooks' JV team against my Alma Mater because I have followed the McDowell program for so long (not to mention when she was playing), but this will be a tall order.

Shelby is a decent Varsity team, and so is Crest. Against McDowell's Varsity, there probably wouldn't be a contest, but this should be interesting.
