If it wasn't for the movie "Sandlot"...kids today would never understand what that word means.

You are right most people don't stay at one job for a lifetime, but most people do not change jobs four times in four months like some girls change teams. I think it is about the mentality that a girl gets when parents don't teach them about commitment. They get that mentality that everything is all about "me". So in adult years it is not just about quitting a job it could be about just deciding not to go to work one day when your coworkers really need you there. You know, when the person says "Well I know they need me today but screw them, I just don't want to go."

As for whose decision it is to leave a team it is hard to say. In my experience many girls seem to be perfectly happy until a parent gets disgruntled for whatever reason. Many parents think in terms of "You can bat my kid wherever you want as long as it is in the top of the lineup or You can play my kid wherever you need her as long as she plays in the infield." When that don't happen the girl usually knows why and can live with it but the parent can't accept it. The kid then has to listen to the parent complain every tournament and eventually becomes unhappy herself and switches teams so she won't have to listen to the parent complain. If the girl listens to it long enough she begins to think that maybe she is being mistreated. This is not true in all cases but in many cases it is the parent that becomes unhappy first. Sometimes a girl comes on the team and just does not "mesh" with the rest of the girls but you can usually see that right away and sometimes a girl finds another team where she has more in common with the girls. It makes most girls sad to leave their teammates they spend so much time with. I know this by talking to the girls themselves.

    100K to play ball?

I sit on the faculty athletics committee at a major state school. I can tell you that a girl who is out-of-state can earn $100K playing ball in goods and services. It goes like this:
Tuition, room & board, fees = $20K+/year (remember we're talking out of state)
Books = $1.5K per year (yes, it can cost $750/semester!)
Meal/Travel = $250/year (girls can pocket some if they eat cheaply!)
Some schools will also pay for summer school (for eligibility purposes). Schools also pay for all out-of-pocket medical expenses the girl might incur plus costs for tutors and equipment (bat, shoes, gloves, laundry).

Put a pencil to it and your close to $100K.

100 K---- I DON'T NO ANYBODY THAT GOT THAT MUCH FOR A SCHOLARSHIP EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI...MAYBE SO,BUT NOT REALISTICALLY !!!.Anyway I think the draw back on moving from team to team would be the gelling of the ballplayers to get use to each other and how they play together...These kids must be like family to learn each others habits either good or bad....jumping form team to team could cause chemistry malfunction......GURU

    Pay for play/Team jumping

I do know several. Keys are talent, talent, marketing (creating competition for the girl's services) and proper exposure. I agree that jumping is not a good thing but I think, realistically, many girls will have to "jump" at least once. If a kid starts travel ball @ age 12 with a "local team" but develops into an extraordinary talent it usually makes sense for her to look to move to a LB's, Cards, situation if she wants to be competitively recruited. Some girls (and parents) don't. They only want to attend "you fill in the name" college so if they know that coach X from "you fill in the name" college is aware and interested then moving to a higher profile probably does not matter. Of course, if coach X knows this then he or she also knows that they will not have to pay top dollar. I know this sounds cold but having been involved in college athletics for all long time I can tell you it is a business and coaches do calculate "what will this kid cost me?".

agree, most will jump once possibly due to aging out of a team, some will jump again to work toward the big name teams, but three or four times a year sounds pretty unstable to me, imo
