    Loyalty

Here is my take on loyalty....

Has been said on many occasions, but here is the truth, even if coaches/kids/parents etc don't want to believe it.

Loyalty goes both ways. We don't cut a kid because their is somebody better. Our coaches commit to the kids to bring them on and make them better. If THEY choose to move on from our team, it will not be because they are unhappy with the instruction, rather, it will most likely be because they feel their particular situation needs something different (i.e. new, closer location, more playing time at a certain position, need different exposure, etc.)

If others would adopt that philosophy over "winning at all costs" i bet there would be 10-20% movement instead of the 40-50% movement we are seeing today.

It has to be about life lessons as well as softball instead of just softball.

    That comes from the

FWIW, my experience has taught me that girls change teams for 3 main reasons. First, one or both of the parents aren't happy. They may be unhappy with playing time, postion play, not getting along with others, not enough or too many tournaments, unhappy with the teaching/coaching or just plain selfish because their DD is not the star of the team. Many times the player doesn't know she is unhappy until a parents tells her she is.

Another reason players change teams is that thay are not being challenged by the tournaments the team is playing in and/or the practices that are held. If the player is looking for something more competitive, then this reason can make sense. But this is where a player and her parents doing their homework about a team comes in. They must ask questions about the team and the coaches must be honest with the answers or the cycle will continue.

Another reason for a player to change teams is the fact many players and parents always feel they need to be on a winning team. Sure winning is important and fun, but each year and in every age group there are only a few "winning" teams. Every year you see and hear parents "marketing" their DD to these "winning" teams and you have coaches that no matter how many players they already have on their roster, they will add this player if he/she is better than a player that is already on the team. What this causes is for the that "last" player and her parents on the team to become unhappy and here you go, this player is now looking for a change. There needs to be TRUE committment from both the player and the coach.

In my 8 years in TB, I have had only four girls leave my teams (other than aging out), but most of them were asking to come back by the next season, if not sooner. I would also like to point out that some of the best and enjoyable games my teams have played in were against Cheese's and CF's teams back in summers 02 and 03. As mentioned earlier, these teams had the same players for several years and they just played a different and higher level of ball (had to be the coaching!).

The older the player gets and if she desires to play in college, the more important it is to play on the right team. The right teams are the ones that play in the good ASA showcase tournaments where the players get the most exposure. So changing teams at this level can sometimes be justified to get the aspiring college player more opportunities to be seen. But for the younger age groups, it's usually just a selfish parent moving the DD around until they find that team to where the DD can be the star of the team.

    Great for N.C.

This has been a great discussion on this thread. I think it has showed that girls can accomplish there goals no matter what team they play for or what road they may take to get there. The great thing about it is people can make there on choices and still arrive at the same point. This problem may not be all bad, as N.C. has more girls signing to play college ball than ever before. They are signing with the big DI schools such as Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Southern Illinois, Maryland, Carolina, N.C. State and many more small DI, DII and DIII schools. They are now being recruited all across the country, witch is a Great thing for the girls in the state of N.C. I have learned alot about how people fill on this thread and did not realize it was such a touchy subject. We all need to keep working together to keep the girls of N.C. getting better as people and Softball players. My Family would like to thank the people before us that have helped N.C. Travel ball become what it is today. To name a few, Ray Chandler, Rodney Threat, Dennis Cook, Tony Author, {Cfball} Go Cleveland County!!! I am sure there are many more that need to be thanked. Hope everyone has a Safe and Happy Holidays!!!

I told you all we needed was a group hug!!!!!!!!

I sure wish I could post classy stuff like that. I am just a loser and make my hometown look stupid. My new years resolution will be to have a more positive attitude & not be so negative & ignorant.
