When we (hs team) played at the tourny in Rock Hill, they played pool play and then teams were seeded for the elimination tourny. Since we could not play but 4 games we could not play in the second part of the tourny.

Exactly! This is the reason for starting this thread. I'm sure CanAmMan and Sports Buff would agree that the NC teams kind of field cheated when they have to head home after the 4th game. This is especially tough after you have won all four games in your pool.

A the next opportunity, hopefully the NCFCA can come up with a new and better plan of presenting this issue to the NCHSAA.

    again

again, I have to ask: why enter a tourn. out of state if you know ahead of time that you won't be able to compete all the way for the championship?

Then again, if you know that you are not good enough to win the state, why play during the regular season? or if you are going to win ASA state championship, WHY play?

    So

So I assume that by entering the out of state tourn., you only desire to play the pool games and you should not be disappointed knowing by rule that you won't be competing for the championship.

    Short answer- competition.

I can only speak for one high school, but the reason they play in these tournaments is to play 4 games against the some of best teams in SC.

If a team is really serious about competing for a conference or state championship, then IMO, you need to play the best nonconference competition you can find. If they were able to play further and compete for the tournament championship, that would be an even greater benefit. But for now, NC teams are limited to the 4 games.

Look at NCAA basketball, the better teams usually play really tough nonconference games with the idea being to better prepare for conference and championship play.

Plus, for these HS girls, traveling out of town with the team for a few days is fun, and they get to do that "team bonding" thing.

    agree

agree with ya Bmac. I was just saying that when you know up front that you can only play the pool games with no championship run then obviously you're there for a few competitive games or a different experience, bonding, etc. same thing our coach had in mind for playing at the beach tourn. There was a (very good) team from Va. there; don't know their rules for # of games. & it was nice not to have a bunch of games crammed in to a short period. sort of laid back atmosphere.

    regardless

either way I think the HS season should end before Memorial Day in order for the girls to have an opportunity to participate in more ASA Qualifying events such as tournaments in GA. In stead of having to wait until the 2nd weekend in June for a chance to get started.

    would be

it would be very difficult to finish all regular season, conf tourn's, playoffs , and state championships any sooner than 1st weekend of June.
