According to the breakdown by quarters...East Burke outscored Freedom 52-24 in the 2nd half. That stat just has my head shaking because when we played East Burke they were lucky to score 50 the entire game. Now if Elizabeth Ross only scored 10-12 points the whole game, then who scored all those points in the second half for East Burke?

EB had very spred out scoring. I don't know the stats but I think they could have possible had 5 girls in double digits: E.Ross, O. Childers, M. Ross, Y. Connelly, and B. Yancey(Yancey was probably the leading scorer for EB, just a guess).

Dribbles,I've seen her play a lot.Not only when she plays McDowell but since I work in Morganton I sometimes drop by and catch a game after work. I was not saying anything bad about Ali.She is a great basketball player. She is one of the best pure scorers I have ever seen in the NW4A and I've been following this conference a long time. The point I was making was Atkinson was not a pure scorer like Ford but she found a way to help her team win. I don't see that with this Freedom team this year. McDowell double teamed Ford a lot at McDowell so there had to be someone else open. She scored many of her points driving the baseline. McDowell done a poor job cutting off the baseline and drawing the charges. Atkinson played four years at McDowell and played with several groups of other players. She and coach Silvers seem to have a way of bringing out the best in the other players. That is something I don't see in this Freedom team yet. I hope they get it together soon for Ali's sack.:twocents:

Anna Atkinson was named to the 2006 Women’s Division II Bulletin All- Freshman Team. The 2006 SAC Freshman of the Year, she also earned a spot on the All- SAC, second team. She directed the top-scoring offense in the SAC during her freshman campaign. The Bulldogs averaged 76.4 points per game during the 2005-06 season. In the SAC statistical rankings, Atkinson led the league in steals per game (2.1) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1). She finished second in the SAC in assists per game (5.0). Atkinson was 32nd in assists per game in the NCAA Division II rankings. She contributed 9.9 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game during her first season as Wingate’s point guard. Atkinson tallied 10.8 points per game in SAC encounters. She had nine assists in four contests, including league wins over Newberry (Jan. 14) and Mars Hill (Feb. 18). Atkinson notched 20 points in a game twice, the most recent time in a 78-76 win at Newberry on Feb. 11. Atkinson hit a three-point field goal with 16 seconds remaining that gave Wingate the lead for good in a 67-64 victory over Clayton State University in the semi-finals of the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional Saturday, March 11. Atkinson was named to the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional All-Tournament team.

HIGH SCHOOL: Anna Atkinson is the career assist leader in the state of North Carolina with 898. She was the Northwestern (4A) Conference Player of the Year in 2004-05, leading the Titans of McDowell High School to a 26-1 overall record. The Titans won three NW4A regular season championships during her career. She was named the MVP of the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational Tournament in December of 2004, breaking the tournament records for assists.

Well, let's see, my hero is point guard at Wingate, where this season as a sophomore she has:

    1) Started 15 of 15 games, while averaging 36.2 minutes per game.

    2) Compiled 104 assists against 30 turnovers, and accumulated 39 steals.

    3) She is averaging 7.2 ppg, and 3.8 rpg.

The team is 11-4, 3-1 in conference.

Anna Atkinson should never be forgotten along with a lot of others from the NW 4A, but Ali Ford (by the way, she was on the prep spotlight on WBTV News tonight) and Kurie Washington are great players in their own right. It will be interesting to see where they wind up in college?

It looks like Anna is having fun and playing a lot at the division II Wingate. That sure beats having to warm the bench at a major ACC school doesn't it.By the way does anyone know how Tara Tate is doing in college?

My FHS people tell me Tara is no longer a player at Wake (not sure if she's a student), her backcourt companion Barrier left Western, & went to L. Rhyne, but has left there too...so having the right fit is paramount....and it seems Anna is in the right one for her.
