Although this is not a baseball story, I am very happy for the Caldwell folks that it affects. Hopefully, with all of those great jobs coming, you guys can create a special section at the baseball games for ol' Braves this year
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Google has clicked on North Carolina as the home for its a 600 (m) million dollar data center.

The search engine giant is building what's called a "server farm.'' It will eventually employ 210 people in a region hit hard in recent years by layoffs in the furniture and textile industries.

North Carolina will give the company almost 5 (m) million dollars as part of a total incentives package that could reach more than 100 (m) million dollars.

Google plans to build the center in Lenoir, a city of 17-thousand about 60 miles northwest of Charlotte. The average annual salary at the data center is expected to be more than 48-thousand dollars, about 20-thousand dollars more than the average salary in Caldwell County.

The recruitment of Google marks the second high-tech score for the state since 2004, when both the state and local governments gave Dell 280 (m) million dollars worth of incentives to build a computer plant in Winston-Salem.

I realize that 200+ jobs is a drop in a bucket for all of those that lost jobs with furniture makers, but I honestly believe that this move will cause other companies to relocate as well. Plus, Lenoir is developing into a retirement community. So for those that have acres of land...you may be looking at a windfall!!!!

I believe Caldwell County is going to become a major player in economic development

I also believe this announcement will bring other tech jobs. You got Dell over here in Kernersville. Caldwell County is a great place to live and do business. I'm a little partial being born in Morganton and grew up in Rutherfordton. I love trout fishing up near Lenoir on Wilson Creek.

No, in fact, I've never caught that many. I'm not very good but it's fun. My boys caught their first fish on fly rods this summer. We're just learning.

Thanks Braves for the pub... The Google center is right outside my backpoarch. It is great news because as many of you know, the furniture industry that Caldwell County lived off of for decades is nearly dead. I know that the Google 500 jobs doesn't sound like a whole lot, but to a community that is on life support as it is.... ITS HUGE.

Maybe Google will sponsor Caldwellbaseball.com and my beloved 29ers.. :)
