That's why we play the games....but I got to tell ya, I wouldn't want to face South Caldwell this year.

Their pitching speaks for itself....but dem boys can hit too. I hope they stay focused...no disrespect to any of the other teams in the conference or in the state, but, I really think this South Caldwell team has a chance to really do something special this year...Good Luck Guys:ylsuper:

Madison is a senoir and he is definantly playing this year for SC. What you may have heard about is not playing legion ball. I haven't heard about that either way but he WILL be a high draft pick this year and whoever gets him will probablly want him to play in a wood bat league somewhere. That is just my opinion though on legion ball. As for high school I have talked to him several time over the last month and believe me he can't wait to get going; (all the way to Raliegh)!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing I like about this team is the "baseball maturity". This group of guys have been playing together along time and have been in alot of big game situations every year for the past several years. The jv legion team for caldwell blew through the competition a couple years ago to win a state championship while the varsity legion was making their own run deep into the tournament. Absolutely awesome year last year for SC but just one game short for a state championship. Very mature and talented group of guys. Anything could happen but I think it is their time to shine.

A Thought To Carry You Through...I Know You Guys Are Reading This...

How many times have you seen where the team with the most talent doesn't always win?

On any given day... I know, I've been on both sides of that coin.

Last year was great, but ended in heartbreak, you could almost reach out and touch it. There was no doubt you had what it took, you just didn't FINISH IT.

People are expecting and predicting... Forget that, don't get caught up in rankings, etc. When the season starts don't let up, even for a moment, until your trophy is in hand.

CLAIM IT NOW, FIGHT FOR IT ALL SEASON, AND THEN FINISH IT.

But do it for you and your teamates, this is your time, and will be your memories. Remember it's the Great TEAMS that win championships!

We're already proud of each and everyone of you.

    Good Luck,

    TBA

    P.S. SPARTAN UP!!!

    forgot to mention............

The JV legion team that won the state championship was young SC players that didn't play on the varsity legion team.

If he signs Pro he probably will not play anywhere....he will probably have to report to his "Rookie League" team in June when their short season starts....if he opts not to sign hopefully we will see him on the Legion field one more year.

    You never know

South Caldwell is extremely talented and they play a schedule that will not allow them to just go through the motions during the regular season. Im not suggesting they would otherwise. They know what it takes to get there and they should be the overwhelming favorites this year. But I can tell you it will not be easy. Everyone will be gunning for them and they will catch everyones best shot. That will only make them even tougher come tourney time. The fact is you can be the best team in the state and still not win it. In a one and done format anything can happen. And they will have to beat some guys along the way out west that are outstanding. I remember a team in our area a few years back that had two draft picks (both pitchers) and five D-1 guys that did not even make the playoffs their senior year. But I certainly dont see this happening to SC. I for one see them winning it all this year. I see it as a toss up in 3-A between several teams East and West. It should be the most competitive the 3-A ranks have been in quite some time. In 2-A I see East Rutherford and North Lenoir as the front runners. But who knows. Anything can happen and it usually does. One thing for sure is I have not seen a group as talented and seasoned like SC in quite a while. And it may be quite awhile before we see it again.

That's why I can't wait to see the ACR vs SC games. Sam Runion is as good as the state has to offer. He is capable of shutting any team down. I don't know if this old heart could take watching a game with him and Bumgardner pitching.

BUT.....Poovey is an extraordinary pitcher as well. And if there is one game on the line for a Championship, I love the heart of Jimmy Messer. The kid is human bulldog that will throw anything and everything at you on any pitch...including his glove if he has to. Did I mention that he has a ML curveball :band:

My best guess is if Madison does sign with the pro's, it will be extremely late in the summer; perhaps the day before school starts. Madison may get his very first summer since he was a l'il one to just chill, relax and workout. Shoot, he may be able to go on a family vacation this year. I know this, if he is drafted in the 1st round, he won't put himself in jeopardy of hurting his signability with an unnecessary injury. Would you?
