Assuming this match-up on Friday night 4/27 in Raleigh. Should be a dandy.

This is looking far ahead, but that's OK.

This will be a great game. Woody will be Woody, giving his team a chance to win. I'm more intrigued about Brackman. These are the type games that the Pro's want to see Brackman pitch in. How he does in these games will determine where he will be selected in the draft.

Personally, I thought he should have stayed in basketball to give himself more options. It sure helped Samardja...the kid parlayed his two sport participation into a $10 million contract.

My prediction: Although NC State has proven hitters, I believe the sticks on the UNC side are stronger top to bottom. Robert Woodard has been in this situation (big game, big rivalry) so many times before that it provides no additional pressure. Also, Woodard is pitching this year with a chip on his shoulder (historically, something that does not bode well for his opponents).

It should be a great game....UNC 5 NC State 3

Braves, I have to disagree with you about Brackman. No way, with the basketball situation at State would he be better off still playing hoops. Brackman blew up for the USA team last summer and may be the top pick in the draft. How could he risk injury given State's poor outlook and his limitations in basketball?

I don't believe he faced any more risk playing basketball than Samardja faced playing football....and Samardja also had some major limitations going into the Pro football draft. BUT...the fact that he was looking at professional football forced the Cubs to make an offer he couldn't refuse.

What the MLB scouts like about Brackman, obviously, is his size, athleticism and projectibility; and he would have had more leverage if he remained in basketball. Unless Brackman has a Andrew Miller type year, I doubt that he will be the top draft pick. That's why this season is so important for him and the game on Friday will be his 1st test of this season.

Hey...I'm probably not right. It certainly won't be the first time :D

But I feel confident about this: Woody gets the win!!!!

I see a difference between him and the ND guy. Smard&*%&%% was a stud FB player. I never thought Brackman was a top flight basketball player, just tall. In fact, not sure he even started at State last year. I just think how hard it is to make a $$ in the real world and that guy is going to be a millionaire soon.

    difference

but i think the biggest difference is the overlap. smardjza (sp?) doesn't have much of an overlap from football to baseball. brackman really faces a problem going from basketball to baseball. by playing basketball brackman not only loses most of his fall baseball time, but he comes to the team mid march at the earliest, when they are about to start conference play. not i realize the football player loses out on his fall baseball time as well, but he's got all jan, and feb to get his throwing going.

Yes, there are differences. One could argue that a football player faces much more risk of injury to their shoulders and other areas that would affect a pitcher. But my point is that Brackman lost whatever leaverage he would have received if he continued his basketball journey. One will never know for sure how well he would have done. I know one thing, there would have been premium interest for a 6"10" forward that can shoot an outside shot...not too many of those guys around.

I'll have to go with NC in this matchup. Woodard has proven over and over he's a big game pitcher. So far, most of the hype around Brackman is based on his potential, not his performance. Regardless, it will be fun to watch!
