2007 must be a high water mark for western NC High School baseball.
Perfect Game now lists two NC players in the top 10 HS players for the nation.
    Justin Jackson @ #4 and Madison Bumgrarner @ #8.
PG also ranks South Caldwell at #8 and West Forsyth at #35 in their national team rankings.
Baseball America also named Jackson and Bumgarner as first team All Americans and had North Forsyth @ # 41 at the end of last season.
Sam Runion joined Jackson and Bumgarner in the Aflac All American game this summer, making two pitchers from the NW4A conference.

At the collegiate level, UNC is currently ranked #1 in the country after finishing #2 last year, with mostly NC players. NC players are also big contributors on the USC and Clemson teams which are also in the top 10.

The 2007 draft is being touted as the strongest in the last 10-15 years and western NC high schools may be producing two first rounders.
Incredibly, one school (TC Roberson) will be producing the second first rounder in the last 3 years !

How about just praising NC in general, or else I'll have to remind you that the championship trophy seems to reside in the East most every year.

Well, that's the point. Everybody knows the best baseball has always been down east. Guys in the west gotta go to Clemson,Tennessee, or the MLB to play.

    No surprise

This is no surprise to those that follow HS baseball. For years NC teams have been going to national tournements and more than held their own. HS baseball in NC has never been better in my opinion and it is only going to get better. Perfect Game Crosschecker was at our opening game along with several ML scouts. There were several comments made about the high level of play in NC HS baseball. It is only going to get better.

I agree that the overall level of play may improve, but I seriously doubt whether NC will ever have 2 of the top 8 high school players in the country again.

I don't know? Charlotte Christian isn't in the East and they've won a few trophies too. And don't suggest that they are only a "private school." UNC doesn't seem to mind!

West Cateret had a couple of pretty good ballplayers last year :newsmile54:, but Baseballman is correct. There is something in the water in Greenville, NC...and it seems every year, the eastern teams take home the gold. My thinking is if we give Greenville to Virginia...all will be well. But remember, when it comes to baseball titles, Raleigh is in the West :newsmile21:

And that is something for the entire state to be proud of about Madison, Justin and Sam. That's pretty elite company they keep.

And Coach May hit the nail on the head. NC baseball has finally caught the eyes on a national level and it's only going to get better.
