Charlotte's new digs are taking shape. Talked with Coach Hibbs today at the park and first game on campus is slated for March 31. The dugouts and chair back seats will be ready to go while the crews put the finishing touches on the press box and suites.

    When Pigs Fly

If these are recent construction progress photos, are they going to finish the remaining 30-40% of a 6 month project in the next three weeks? They started construction last September and announced the project would be completed in time for the home opener. The winter has been unseasonably mild and dry so weather delays can't be an excuse. Maybe Hibbs meant May 31.

Again, the dugouts will be complete and the chair back seating will be complete by the end of the month. The field hasn't been touched and is ready for play now. RT Dooley will fence off the press box and suites to continue working on them while play resumes on campus.

Papa...ever heard of supplemental agreements or change directives? Due to a couple SA's the critical path of the project was interupted causing a few delays. And per the original release on the website, "RT Dooley Construction Company is scheduled to begin construction of Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium in August with an aggressive completion target of early February."

The facility will have a true wow factor that they haven't ever had. Looking forward to the grand opening.

    Grass...

It's the real stuff. The playing surface was renovated about two years ago.

Although the start date may have been September, I don't think they started tearing anything down until the middle of the month and at that time had only two gentlemen doing it. That seemed to take a long time. I was out there a few weeks ago and the foundations were all that was done on the towers so it seems to be moving along pretty well now. Not sure why they didn't start in June. It would possibly be done by now. They are home from March 30th through April 7th so it would be nice to be back on campus but that may be a bit aggressive. It will be a big improvement though!

It's going to be awesome. If only they could get out of the Atlantic 10 (not for lack of talent, but for interest).

The game last year against UNC had to be the largest crowd I have ever seen in Charlotte. The place was electric!

    I'm A Charlotte Alumni

I'm a Charlotte alumni, Lady, so I have no reason to be jealous. The new ballpark is a long time coming and will be a tremendous addition to the university. I'm an architect so I am familiar with construction, change orders, change directives, weather delays, schedules, and hearing excuses for not meeting schedules, particularly when there has been good weather. Every day is precious in meeting a schedule. I wonder if the GC will be working this Saturday when the weather forecast is sunny and 62 degrees? Construction typically does not speed up at the end of a project, it slows down. If the photographs are recent, MUCH work remains to be done in the next three weeks to finish by the end of the month. I hope they make it.

Well, PAPA, instead of being so negative in your response...take Coach Hibbs at his word. If you didn't hear the conversation...don't say something isn't going to happen...all things are possible...the playing field is OK and coach said dugouts and some seats will be ready and areas still under construction will be fenced in...then I believe they will play on March 31st at Charlotte.
