It seems to me that many high schools are not playing their stronger players in the right positions. :omg: Why would you not play your most talented players? In almost every high school game I have been to this year, I have seen a girl sitting on the bench, or playing in the wrong position that shouldn't be. I'm glad I don't have to sit and watch my daughter sitting on the bench anymore. Can anyone spread some light on this one?

I got to watch my DD ride the pine for 3 years when she was three times (at least) the player another girl was.

    HS Ball is NOT Fair!

As other posts on TBR have shown, HS ball is a huge political arena! For the most part, it is who you are, how much money you put into the softball program at the school, or just plain who the coach likes better than another! It has been this way since the dawn of time and I'm pretty sure that if you do a poll ten years from now, you will still hear the same gripes! There are kids riding the bench on a lot of HS teams that would be starters on their TB teams! This is a large part of why college coach really don't give HS stats a lot of weight! The stats for HS ball do not show an accurate view of a players ability or status of player they are! Because HS are extremely varied in the competition level for one thing. Politics plays a huge roll in who plays and where! I wish with I could say that this is not a fact, but it is a fact. Now there will be people out there that post how I must have had a bad experience that led me to fill this way, but that isn't true! I just listen to parents talk about their DD's school teams and I have seen it for myself, repeatedly! So to finish up, just tell your DD to keep her chin up work just as hard at practices as the next girl and be ready to play TB for the summer and fall! And if she gets the opportunity to go in on the HS field do her best to show why she should play that posiiton!

There's lots more money involved in travel ball, as opposed to school ball.

This is very interesting......My child is still in middle school so I want to give an "outsiders" opinion. Most on here know what HS my daughter will attend so I wont go back into it. I follow the program closely and have even coached some of the kids up there at the High School............I hear this CONSTANTLY(politics,Money giving, brown nosing,)....but usually from the parents of the kids that have NO BUSINESS starting....but they have to come up with some reason so its "POLITICS".......Now I don't know the circumstances with your kids or at your schools or the schools in your area..........but knowing the kids at our High schools and the coaches.....I AM CONFIDENT that they are putting the very best that we have on the field and the rest........go to JV........much to the parents dis-satisfaction.

This is one reason I may never help at the High School. I want my kid to make it on merit(I KNOW she can).........and I don't want the same parents talking this stuff about me and my family, if and when she does get to play. Even though I study the game constantly and feel qualified to help, but I wouldn't need this.

While I appreciate your opinion, I disagree

You know I knew when I put that statement in the previous post, that someone would say, well maybe it is just that your kid didn't play. Well that is not the case! My DD played every inning of every game. However I saw then and I see now where really good ball players are playing the pine field, or are not starters, when on most TB teamsthey would be starters. Just because your experience didn't or hasn't been that of which I posted, doesn't mean it does not happen. Here planet earth, we live in the community of reality! In reality community, fairness SOMETIMES takes a back seat to politics, money giving, who your daddy or mommy knows, and just which kid the coach likes the attitude/personality of. Oh and by the way, I think the parents should be on their DD's side. Isn't that the way it is supposed to be. That is why coaches make these impartial, unbiased decisions. However parents of most kids today do put up a lot of dough to take their DD's to play TB all over the area, with loads of expenses. That might tend to make you angry, if your DD doesn't get played because her Daddy is friends with a parent that had it out with this same coach 2 years ago! I'm just saying!
You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to my opinion, we don't have to agree to have,

I have to agree about the coaches not playing the better girls or playing them in the wrong positions. My DD gets to play but I know of many girls better than my DD (yes, I said better!!!) that sit the bench. Not saying my daughter is bad though :smash: . It is a shame to see tallant go to waste riding the pine. Unfortunately it's the nature of the beast. You have good coaches and then you have those that play kids for the wrong reasons. I agree that if a girl gives bad attitude or acts as if they are too good to give it 100% at practice then yeah, ride the pine for discipline but if it's just because ya like one over the other then you are doing an entire team an injustice. Just one Dad's opinion....

    Sad, but Reality

It is sad, that this is how the "real world", works, but it is true! As mentioned on TBR in past posts by, others and myself. Sometimes you can't see the truth, because you are not the parent, with a kid on the pine! Everything is ok-doakie in your world, while HS ball season may be a nightmare for the parent next to you in the stands! I can honestly say that I am glad my DD is past all that now and I can just watch the game because I enjoy watching the game! But I still feel for those who are still having to deal with it!
