great supporting cast at SSHS and another focused freshman WNC pitcher. Nice work Julia

BHHS has a good young freshman pitcher as well in Ashley but no match for SSHS and hope some key players get healthy quick!

A lot of guts and heart on both sides. Great plays at the plate from both teams to save the game.

I just felt obligated to praise the Providence Panthers a little bit. I have not had the pleasure of watching such gutsy kids in a long time. Lost one of their best players in the first game of the year for three weeks and have been playing with low numbers. Three more critical injuries today, one kid ended up in the hospital after the game getting stiches and a CT Scan. Two others questionable for a couple weeks due to injuries that occured in this game. Three pretty bad injuries and the starting SS and Pitcher were down with flu like symptoms and managed to step up for their team and play to avoid a forfeit. Leah Quant threw a heck of a game for a sick kid and how she managed 15 innings I will never know...GUTS and HEART. Her catcher was also one of the toughest kids out there as she managed to catch several innings injured but would not let anyone pull her from the game. She also made a crucial play at the plate to save the game that the sick SS threw in from centerfield. Quant then stepped up and struck out the side with a runner on third and no outs. To all the kids who played sick and hurt today...Thank You; you ladies were truly heroic in your actions and leadership. Thank you to the Junior Varsity players who contributed to the Varsity team to help them play this game today and play whatever roles were asked of you.

No matter what happens from here on out due to the misfortune the Panthers have had, we are all so proud of you and admire you more than you know. Good luck the rest of the season and get well soon.
