High School Stats--- What A Joke !!!

    All I can say when you really play a competitive team,STATS sure do drop-----HUH ????? All those hits & all those k'S sure do drop off..anybody can have good STATS if your opponent is no better than a rec ball team !! If you want to see real STATS play Showcase Ball..then bring me your STATS....I bet you want see 20 k's and .600 batting averages...You can respond to this thread as negative as you want,but FACTS are FACTS !!!

    I'd venture to say most HS stats are kept by people who haven't a clue, other than that I agree with your premise.

    a couple of hs coaches in our conference came up with the idea to spend 10 minutes after each game to compare stats.. . . . . . you know, try to get together on hits, k's, steals, earned runs, etc, etc. idea was poo pooed because of possible arguements after games when no one could agree. stats are in the eyes of the beholder, and in most hs's, that would be a player riding the pine.

    Totally agree but?

    I agree with all that's said. A weak conference can make many players
    look great on paper. I also know that very few "stat keepers" really
    know how to do the job correctly. But, how important are HS stats to
    a college coach? I have also been told that even Showcase / Tournament
    ball stats do not mean that much to college coaches. Can anyone shed
    some insight into this subject?:39:

    Do TB scorekeepers really know any more than HS scorekeepers? NO! Just as many bogus stats can be found in TB scorebooks as HS scorebooks.

    What do stats really mean anyway? Outside the major leagues, they are useful only within a given team as a tool to guage relative performance. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand this. That is why college coaches pay little attention to stats.

    When somebody says DD bats .700, just politely laugh, shake your head, and walk away.

    hs stats kept by mostly hs players......sounds like someone should do Something besides watching the game.

    listening wouldnt hurt instead of all the changes needed to make ones case.

    betterbatter, you know, for some here, it(stats of DD) boast egos and gauges their worth...........they feel good and it helps them personally....they Think.:greedy:

    when i worked in newspapers (in north carolina and in florida), we would just trust the home team who called the game in. oftentimes, you'd hear the person calling the game in (not always a statkeeper, sometimes the coach's daughter) say "so and so had a double...wait...no, make it a triple." they just padded the stats on the fly.
