Are your baseball & softball fd's located next to each other? Is your schedule such that the 2 sports are playing home at same time?

Our's are not located next to each other but I think it's better when they are side by side. Fans and students can check out both games.....interaction...........concession sales may be better?

But also there's other sports...track, soccer....

Here in Caldwell County, the parents and players did build the FOOTBALL, & BASEBALL FIELDS, plus the field house, there is not one red cent of taxpayer money in any of our athletic facilities, and also the parents and player (this also includes coaches) built all the fields including the softball field, and again there is not one red cent of taxpayer money spent on any field
Another thing that has been mentioned but proablly not stress enough, is the fact that softball as it is now being played is a new sport (in NC it has been in existence for what , seven or eight years, football and baseball haven been played for appx. 100 years.....

    One more thing to mention.
When South Caldwell was opened in 1978, we did not have a football or baseball field to play on, it was at least five years before we got the football field built, and another five before the baseball field was playable, another twenty years before we got lights put on the baseball field.

Lets see, how long have we been playing fastpitch softball????

    DDD Signing Off....

Nobody is being evasive....the original post by betterbatter is asking about actual FIELD CONDITIONS at the various softball complexes. It has somehow evolved into a "boys vs. girls" discussion and a debate about taxes.

There has been some excellent wisdom, logic, experience and examples offered by Dawgfan, FreedomSball, betterbatter, nctiger, and others on how to achieve immaculate softball facilites. Unfortunately, much of it has fallen on deaf ears...

Suffice it to say, an annual "Field Day" and some dads spending a few days putting up a batting cage isn't going to get you what you want!!!

IMO, one of life's little pleasures is watching a baseball/softball game being played on a beautiful field at a well kept complex. Keep up the hard work, gang....and, YEP, it's time to fertilize again to get those outfields to pop for the playoffs!!!!

So IYO, Girls should feel lucky?

So IYO, girls should feel fortunate to even get to play fastpitch, right? I mean ain't that outhouse and that card-board box they sell candy from good enough? You don't need a leather glove, just wad up one of those dish towels from the kitchen! You don't need one of those fancy bats, just go in the woods and find a stirdy stick! I mean really, you should feel lucky you ain't barefoot and pregnant by now, anyways!
This country isn't ready for a woman for president, because all the men that think women are second class citizens, can still vote! My DD should have the same rights and pleasures as my SS! Just because they haven't been playing fastpitch around here for that long, doesn't mean the game was invented last week! They have been playing fastpitch since 1940's! Oh and by the way boys can play the game too! Mostly girls play the game! Regardless, I think my DD should have the same safe, up to date, facilities to play the sport of her choice in as my SS has to play the sports of his choice in! It not being popular around here until recently is no excuse! I grew up in this area and there was almost never a soccer game played around here then either, but you can find a nice place to play soccer on every freakin corner!
It is just plain and simple, if you are a girl's sport, you are not treated equal! Now you can disagree but that will not make it untrue!

    The point of this thread

The point of this thread is to bring attention to the fact that there is a huge difference between the good facilities and the bad facilities. Why does that happen? What has enabled the good sites to be good and what has caused the bad sites to be bad? At what point do fields become so unsafe that they should be condemned? What minimum standards should be allowed by a school's athletic department and how do you get them to care? What can coaching staffs and parents do to make it better? The discrimination thing is just an excuse. . .but maybe there is discrimination is some locations. I think laziness is the biggest factor in most bad facility situations.

Here is a perfect example that has just recently happened. Now, a parent has connections with several business owners, they heard how great the team did last year and thru more conversation with this parent decided that they wanted to contribrute to the program. This was brought to the coach and she asked the AD if it is ok for them to take donations. The AD said sure, no problem. Now for these donations, the not so lazy parent decided he wanted to reward these businesses with banners to put up on the outfield fence. Sounds reasonable right? Well a Booster happened down to the softball field, and noticed the banners, then proceeded to contact the AD, and the following letter was sent out.

    Coaches

Make sure you don't go to any businesses and ask for donations unless you talk to me first. Our booster club has ALL RIGHTS to sponsorships (ex- T shirts, banners, etc) The key is, you need to see me before you do any kind of fund raiser or ask for any donations.

We can't have coaches soliciting the people that support our total athletic program. This is a serious issue for the fact that we will lose sponsors if we drain the source.

This issue will be addressed in depth at our summer head coaches meeting.

    Thanks for your cooperation
