I have been told of a situation 2 years back when there were 3 or 4 athletics living within walking distance of hunter huss, yet going to another hs. i know this is true for south point also, you have ball players who should be at south point, yet drive about 8 miles away. who does it really benefit in the end?

Yep, some of these kids have relatives that live all over the county, and they just use the relatives address they want to use in accordance with what school they want to attend. It mostly affects other sports, for the most part not softball, that I know of anyway.

In a situation where a new school opens up, the transfer policy should not be in effect for the first year. I understand the policy in the situation where you are attempting to stop students for transfering for purpose of playing sports at a different school however when a new school opens up and you are offering to up coming senoirs the choice to go to new school or stay at existing schools, you should give same consideration for all students for that first year. In the Burke County situation, the students should be given the choice to stay at Freedom or move to Patton in the first year that Patton opens up. For students such as my daughter who plays 2 varsity sports and will be an upcoming Junior, it is not fair for her to have to sacrifice her sports at a school that will struggle to find coaches to compete in the conference in her Junior year. Especially since to date Patton High Administrators have only announced the search and hiring of a Football Coach ( oh wait.. we are interested in girls sports and Football is the KING at all high schools so if we have our football coach, no AD but a football coach, we are set) What is it going to hurt in that one year to let the kids stay or go that want to? There is a very good male athlete that is in the Freedom disctrict and will be in Freedom district after Patton opens up however he wants to go to Patton, why make him sit out a year when he could help a new struggling program in many different sports.

For most parents in this situation, the issue is not whether they have upheld the transfer policy to this date, this is a totally different situation for this year. The "other" situations are happening because someone has told the lie that they have moved, and are using a false address so, on paper, the transfer doesn't look bad or illegal and no one is going to take the time to investigate, this has happened since I was in high school 20 + years ago all over the US.

    My 5 cents worth

    NOT MENTIONING NAMES !!!

I promised that I would not cause an uproar about an issue, but --(JUST KIDDING ), people get around the rules just like somebody that is wealthy gets around paying taxes..If you got the means, you'll find the way...I just hate it in the end that people have to stoop low to win !!!! For an example my son got a speeding ticket for doing 77 mph in a 55 mph zone, I was told by my friends to get a lawyer, and my son would get out of the ticket with NO POINTS on his license or my insurance by claiming improper equipment, the LAW makes it too easy. What if my son hit your daughter after the third time of speeding ,because he didn't learn his lesson about not speeding because he could get out of it everytime. ( YOU WOULD PROBABLY WANT TO KILL HIM FOR HURTING YOUR KID ).. The only thing my son has learned if you got the means there is a way to get whatever you want....it just don't sound HONEST to me !!!! Sometimes we think we get away with it,but it will haunt us later in life....trust me I know !!!!

    GURU

------When we get caught it will be too late !!!

A lot of truth to what you are saying, heard of parents getting legally separated so they can maintain two households in two districts, even signing guardianship of child over to someone else. There is always a way!!!Just how far are we willing to go

WOW, Everybody has something to add to this one!

IMO, there should be rules/laws that govern this situation! Just because a kid has the means to change schools everytime they don't get their way or things look better on the other side of the fence, is no reason to give them their way! By the way, just curious, how often do people get transfered (work related) in the same school conference/town? Don't work related moves usually mean more than across town? Sounds like somebody is trying to use an excuse, to get what they want! If you always give a child a way out of every situation in life that they don't like, or don't know how to handle or things just aren't going their way, then you are raising a brat (prema donna)! Teach them to handle a variety of situations and real life! Wouldn't it be nice if we all could go to the school with the best team? Wouldn't it be nice if we all could just stick our bottom lip out and get our way? So what your DD has to play on a team that doesn't win every game! There are kids playing on teams all over "this side and the other of Mississippi" that either doen't have a good team or the coach sucks, or the rival team across town beats you everytime, or the other school has a jamup cafeteria and her school doesn't, and most of all your DD is a better player than someone who actually gets to participate in the games! This world has been made into a big "Paton Place" of if you can buy it, you can have it! THAT IS NOT REALITY! Sometimes you have to say, DD it is time you learn how to handle real life situation! It is NOT fair to the kids that can't afford to move every year for the kids that can to get to skip all over the district! How does this child even make lasting friendships? Here's a thought, maybe you parents out there with your wallets overflowing, could not move and put that dough $$ into use at the school your kid already attends and help the softball program there out so has to bring yet another school team up to standard/level the rival programs in the area have!
I wish I had been born to one of those families that could have given me everything that I wanted! Because my list is still really, really, really long!
Believe it or not, kids actually do NEED and want boundaries!!!!
In other words: Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!!

    Clarification

I would like to make a clarification. The states that i'm referring to have adopted these athletic guidelines and rules. (NCHSAA for us) They are not laws written by the state government. When a student transfers to a new school within or outside of the district, student records transfer with them. The Department of Education in all states keeps these records. I'm not referring to "shady" transfers. I'm referring to any/all transfers that these states have required a one year ineligibility period.

It's not the transfers that are SHADY---- Remember guns don't kill people." PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE", and YES there are ways to get around any situation if you have the means.....SAD BUT TRUE !!!! Rules are on paper, just like speed limit signs are on highways....how many people go 55 mph??? How Many ???

    NOT ANY!!!

Well Guru, what is more fun than doing what you shouldn't? Another way to word your saying "Don't Blame the trigger, Blame the FINGER!!!
I don't think this world will ever see the end of the "good ole boy system" the old "You scratch my back and I'll scrath your's"! You know I think the majority of people now days actually think that YOU CAN BUY HAPPINESS!
Maybe that explains why there are so many UNHAPPY people around!

    attend

Liberal attendance policies play havoc with one school being overcrowded & the other having empty classrooms.

There's a new middle school opening in our county next year and the school board has made the decision not to allow 8th-graders to stay at their current school if they live within the new school boundaries.

Welcome to the growing populations of NC's urban areas.
