    I wouldn t be...

surprised (tho huge underdogs) they win this game...this is why they play it AND on any given day a well coached team can pull out a victory from the depths of defeat..kids must execute tho BIG TIME!!! Done it and seen it over over over gain... :)

No one said anything about disrespecting the kids. My point is that folks have gotten a little carried away with the praise and I'm the only one so far who isn't concerned about saying it. Its remarkable whats been done so far and a credit to coaches and players, but AK is not the 6th ranked 4A team in the state which is where Impact ranked them. That's a joke! What an insult to Butler! You have earned seeing the #1 guys and that is a great accomplishment, but Smith is the only one you've seen and they defeated you. Myers Park pitched a sophmore against you not one of their top two pitchers as an example.

Once again, it is absolutely outstanding what has gone on so far, but there are other teams who are being overlooked that should be recognized.

That is the 2nd time that you have brought this up, so let me address that.

I couldn't agree with you more about teams being overlooked, but it is hard for me to understand why. This is not like a newspaper that only the writers print their stories or opinions. Anybody should feel free to post a story, information or an opinion of a team they feel deserves recognition.

I've heard this for years people saying..."this team doesn't get any recognition" and I just shake my head and bang it on a door. If the people complaining spent their time making a thread about a particular team, no team would go unrecognized.

The only time a team could go unrecognized is when their supporters don't make an effort to contribute...or in some cases, when an insecure coach demands that their supporters not post on TBR. It's a shame when that happens, but it does....

So let's not knock the teams that are recognized; instead start a thread about a team that you know something about that has not. It's just that simple.

Agreed Braves...I like the fact Butler is not being mentioned much...They should just keep playing ball and let the W's speak for themselves...Recognition will come...!

As far as Audrey Kell...They are a scrappy bunch that don't get cheated at the plate...They are going to make some noise regardless of the print but, Butler will have something and has already had something to say about it, as will Weddington, South, Myers Park....!

    Good luck to both schools!
Still a lot of baseball to go!
    It should be fun!!

    Did I miss it?

I may be too late already. I just moved to an area where i'm about 2 miles from AK and about 5 miles from Providence. I was wanting to go see this game. When is it and where?

    The rivalry officially started tonight.

This game was everything people thought it would be and more. It reminded me of a Rocky movie. Rocky gets knocked down time and again, just when he can barely stand on his feet...bam!...he comes back fighting.

You could tell before and at the beginning of the game that Providence came out with an attitude. They were pumped, focused and had a chip on their shoulder. They wanted to prove to the Purple People that they were still puppies to the Big Dog and they came out barking and ready to bite

After the 1st inning it was 5-0 with 3 home runs; 2 of them back to back by Mailman and Shaffer. After 4 it was 6-0 and Providence was set on "cruise control". Johnny Eaker made it interesting for the Knights when he hit a drive to the wall with the bases loaded, but a tremendous over-the-shoulder catch by the CF (I believe Will Helms) ended the scoring opportunity.

Rocky kept getting knocked down by Clubber Lang and the score was 10-3 going into the last inning...led by Richie Shaffer's two HR's.....but just like Rocky, the Knights got up off the canvas and started throwing some haymakers themselves. After a pickoff attempt went to RF, two players scored and the game became a little more interesting. With one out and the bases loaded up came soph CF, Ryan Stetson....bam....off the CF HR wall and the game was tied. It ws amazing...to see these kids not quit when it would have been understandable says more about their character then if they won 15-0. They left everything they had on the field.

The Big Dogs may have been rocked, but they showed they had some character as well. They didn't panic and waited their turn to grab this game out of AK's hands.

Up came the "star of the game" Richie Shaffer. No way was this kid going to see a ball near the strike zone, but when you challenge a champ, he's not going to back down and ...Bam!!!!!... game over...Shaffer's 3rd HR in the game and Clubber Lang reminded Rocky that this wasn't the movies...but the 1st intense rivalry of many to come. This was a great game played by two very well coached, talented teams. Thanks to everyone that participated; I got my money's worth.

There's going to be another great game on Tuesday: Providence vs Butler.....this should be a barn burner.

For those people that thought that AK has been lucky this year and can not compete with the top teams in this conference, should have been at this game. AK proved that they are not only talented, but have a BIG heart...and all you can ask of any team is can they compete? They proved tonight that is no longer a question. This team can compete with anyone.

A side note: Although Coach Hignight and Bagwell are best of friends, but when these two teams play each other it's like the Hatfields and the McCoys. There is no love.....even their dogs don't like each other on game day. Now, I don't believe either has a dog, but if they did, they would be barking at each other on that day and licking each other the next

Braves, great recap. Just so everybody knows its Ryan Stetson not Sexton and he will be someone you read about someday. Fast as lightning, quick hands and a gamer.

Is it too late to get him to change his name?

    Yes, I heard he runs a phenomenal 40. I'm a big fan.
