    Committment

The C word seems to be used only if it meets the needs of a parent or player at the time. We are teaching our kids that if we are not happy with a committment we made, no problem, just don't keep it. If we don't want to fit in with a team, just leave it. If we don't like a coaches decision, attack him or her, if we don't get our way, write all parties we can think of and complain and try and destroy whom ever gets in our way. If we are a member of an organization or group and we don't feel we get sufficent credit, just gather up other members and steal away what we want. Picture getting clearer here? Let's get back to teaching committment, team approach, support and being morally strong, our kids will be much better for it and so will we.

On a positive note get out and see some of the local colleges play softball, we are blessed with some fine teams in the area. Lenior Rhyne is ranked in top 10 in D-11, UNCC is having a good year, Mt. Olive is awesome this year and plays Queens, Belmont Abbey and other local teams. Wingate is also good despite several key injuries. Between these colleges and the local HS teams, we are truly blessed with great talent.

    on yeah, another thing.......

a quote from earlier in this thread: "it don't have a thing to do with winning" ; somehow that outlook just doesn't sit well :46:when we are talking about a TEAM sport.

If your school board makes this rule and enforces it I believe it is ok. However if they are like say Buncombe county{not picking on Buncombe because it is my home county} and they let players commute from all over the county it will be wrong. I use to work in Asheville and was amazed every morning when I saw the line of cars backed up at the Fairview exit on I-40 as parents and students from all over Asheville tried to get to Reynolds . The joke around Buncombe county has always been a lot of good Ball players were raised in PO boxes in Fairview. All jokes aside I do believe there has to be lines drawn or what chance do the new high schools have of getting a decent sports program started. Good luck to you and Amber,I know the growing pains will be hard for all the high school coaches in Burke county.

This seems to be answer most times given for reason of moving ,but in fact probably has to more do with a upper classman that is slightly better and DD will have to play behind for a year or so.Lets face the facts a HS coaches ability rest with the talent level of his players and tranfers are to the most sucessful programs with the coaches encouragement because w/o it why move. Why is a Coach with all that ability still doing at the HS level that a person would go to such extremes to be there,Wouldn't private lessons be a little cheaper.Just a thought.

    Situations

Every situation for players are different. Yes, I transferred my DD this yr.In reality it's no ones business, but I'll make a short explanation. The move was to prepare her academically & athletically for college. Her new coach played a major role in landing a nice scholarship at a major university. Her old coach could not have done this. New school has much better academics, & tough 3 hr practices will better prepare her for the future.
As far as committment, we have been on the same TB team going on 5 yrs. Yes we considered leaving over a situation, but it worked itself out, so we stayed. But do the top TB teams in the state have the same core girls that they started with ? No. They pick up every yr to keep the team going. Where do these girls come from, off the streets ? No, they come from other teams. Why do they leave ? Because they are told " we always play on field #1, we know the college coaches, & we"ll get you seen more than where you are at." So, these kids jump. It's like a job, if you feel you're bettering yourself, you leave. So how do you expect to teach committment?
Anyway , I'm doing what I feel is best for my DD, & if anyone else wouldn't do the same, you are fooling yourself. Todd Peeler
