What is the advantage of playing in showcase tournaments if you have already signed or verbally committed to play in college? Should there be a rule in place not to allow those already committed to play in these tournaments. This would give those players that have not signed or committed a better chance of being seen by the college coaches. A little feedback please. Please stay on topic.

agree Cometfan. I know of a college coach who has asked his verbal committed players to not play in showcase tournaments as he has lost six picks in the last three years to girls not honoring their verbal committments. i would hate to think that some girls are looking for the BBD (bigger and better deal), but according to him, its happening more and more.

If that is the only tournaments available for the committed players to play in, how will they keep their skills honed?

Most college coaches that I talk with dont realy care if you play summer ball after you sign (after senior year) They do however give you a workout schedule that you would be wise to adhere to.

More and more showcase tournament directors are asking teams not to bring signed, verbally committed, or players who are already in college to play in their tournaments. Sometimes they may just put a limit on the number...but I have not seen them turn down a team because of it. It is usually just a request. I have heard of a 23U league they may start up and that would be a perfect place for those kids to play.

    23u

Makes sense to me, lets see here, kid signs or kid is of age but a freshman in college. Where does she have a place to play in the off season? And, if non-signed or committed players move up to this higher talent league, 23u, whats the skinny on NCAA regulations on college coaches watching them play? Coach 1 has a fresh. that didn't get enough playing time this year, can she watch a game involving her signed player all the while possibly seeing potential recruits?

Recruiting rules will not change at 23U

Rule does not change..... has nothing to do with the age group...
it is about contact with recruit age athletes.......

but it would be a great option for signed kids, as well as kids on college rosters.... just have to stay within the rules.....

    workouts

i'm not expecting that you respond to me with the perfect workout that a coach desires, but, with respect by the way, give us in TBR some info on what "workout schedule" includes. good post by dawgfan! play safe.

    MY THOUGHTS

My real only concern would be injury during Summer play, what if you have a signee that will probably be a starting Freshman, and she blows something out over the Summer, because showcase ball last into the Fall...you could as college coach insist that your players only play June thru August, and tell them to rest during the Fall this would slightly decrease the chances of injuries, because of shorter duration..NO Guarantees, but a better chance of seeing less injuries, and if she get injuried during Summer play then this period in the Fall would give her a rest period...Just My Thought !!!

The workouts are for the most part about conditioning and getting the athlete readyfor whatever minium standards a particular coach may have for their squad, such as a timed mile etc. If you want to find out a particularschools program contact the coaching staff. They would be happy to help you.
