Had a tbr member ask when and if it's a good idea for a ballplayer to commit early. I believe she was talking about a junior who was being persued by some top quality D1 schools. I have given her my opinion, and would like to have some of our :feedback: other experienced members give her your advice.

If the offer is what you are expecting and it is where you want to play and also attend CLASS then I say commit when an offer is made. Don't forget that if you wait they that offer may not be there when you are ready.

    Agree

Agree these D-1 offers do not stay on the table long as they will move on to next choice.

NO WAY! Just went through this experience with my DD. She was offered in January of her junior year and was given a deadline to accept ny 5/1. This was one of the hardest decisons she ever made because she really liked the coach. But she did not commit.

Long story short- she went on last to have a really good summer including in Colorado, Cardinal Classic and ASA Nationals and the offers were plenty. She decided on the school she had been wanting to go since she was 5. Not too long after she committed to UNC, the coach at the first school to make her an offer in January, resigned and went to coach at another school out of state.

If DD would have committed early, it is very doubtful she would have been recruited by all the schools that made offers and she would have missed out on a dream come true.

Okay...I see your point, but what if the next coach resigns and moves on, you can't live on a whim, I've tried it,and it doesn't work. My question is did she want to play for this certain coach and / or she liked the school ???..Humans are creatures of habit, and if the bucks are there people will move on thinking they will be happier. I can't metion names, but a kid that I know was getting ready to sign with a decent school in N.C.,same thing happened to her...from D1 to D3 college coaches see the bucks they are going to leave..NO Guarantees that they will stay !!! Just be happy that you have a kid that made it to the next level...me??? I'm still trying to get there !!!!
