from Raleigh NEWS & oBSERVER , LAST WEEK:
ENTITLED: "sOFTBALL STRIKES OUT WHEN PROM NIGHT ROLLS AROUND"
    Javier Serna, Staff Writer
Things weren't falling apart, but Durham Riverside coach Mac Merritt was forced to change pitchers and rearrange his infield in the fifth inning.
Junior pitcher Jenn Ladd, who had given up only a hit in four innings, had to leave early, exchanging her softball glove for a prom dress.
It all worked out in the end for Riverside, which beat Chapel Hill 3-0 in a PAC-Six softball game.
Before leaving, Ladd left her team in good shape.
She belted a three-run homer in the top of the third before leaving an inning later.
"She earned her ticket," joked Merritt. "I can't compete with the prom. You forget about balls and strikes when it's prom weekend."
Junior Christie Thomas moved from shortstop to the pitcher's mound and didn't allow a hit in three innings while earning the save. Thomas also was 3-for-3 at the plate.
On a defensive note, sophomore Ashley Prince moved from second base to third base and had no trouble throwing to first base. In three innings, she was in on five outs in her first appearance at third base.
"She made some nice stops and had some great throws to first base," Merritt said. "We had to do a lot of rearranging so I'm really proud. We beat a really, really good team tonight." The Pirates improved to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

    Guru, You got that right!

You can't take these players social life away! You have a prom twice in your life! I think the other players on the team can handle it for one night, or one game! If you take too many hings away from teenagers, they choose between and softball may not win! Gotta be careful!

our problem hasn't been with the prom, it has been, and probably always be with the band. band competition is graded, so i'm not allowed to complain about interference with games or practices. what ever!!!

    bad scheduling

I'd say it is bad scheduling if a softball game & prom are on same night. an AD not doing their job.

Yeah, I was wondering why more players didn't have to leave?

I had the same thought........maybe she went to a prom at another school??

If our school had a softball game & prom on same night, & the girls chose prom........we would lose by forfeit definitely or have to bring up a bunch of JV's.
