Bingo,,, mincmi is a winner. If a batted ball strikes base umpire before it touches a fielder or passes any fielder except the pitcher, batter is credited with single,,,, actually runners would return to their occupied base, unless forced to move up.

But in the example I gave (bases loaded), it would mean forcing the game-winning run home,,, ballgame. This is very rare (have only seen it occur twice), but both times the penalized team's coach went off,,,,, and I simply think many people believe the umpire is a part of the field and its a live ball if he gets hit,,, but it is not, and the batter gets first base.

Its rare because we don't like getting hit with the ball...

A coach can only make one visit to the mound in an inning without removing the pitcher. He can make 3 total trips to the mound before removing him from the game.

I thought it was 3 per game period. I didn't think the number per inning mattered if 3 or below.

In High School, the coach has 3 visits before he has to pull the pitcher. He can take them all in the same inning if he wishes.

In college the coach gets 3 visits before he has to pull the pitcher, however in the 2nd visit to the same pitcher in any inning he must pull him.

In pro the coach gets 1 visit per inning per pitcher. On the 2nd visit to the same pitcher in any inning he must pull him. He may visit once per inning every inning if he wishes without pulling him.

try this one on for size BDOC

Bases loaded with w/ 1 out. Ball hit to center field. Cf makes a diving forward catch. All runners leave early b/c they think ball was down. Field umpire signals catch. All runners return quickly tag and go. Defensive team throws ball into 3rd base, 3b tags his bag and field umpire punches out 3. Defensive team leaves field, but offensive team wants a conference about r3. What should happen? I saw this in a college game, and it was wild.:cheers2:

    Tag ruling

If the umpire banged him out for leaving the base early then he is out on the judgement of the umpire. The coach can ask the umpire to get help but mostly likely his partner will back him up. It doesn't really matter that the defense left the field because if the partner umpire were to disagree with the base umpire then he could call the players back to the field. Of course the other coach would then go nuts.

This is a case of the field umpire getting too happy. The tag at 3rd is the Home Plate's call all the way. The umpires could get together on this and change it, but if they do, its going to be what we call in the umpiring profession as a Sh!*Storm.

Agree on the Sh*tStorm. There are some things an umpire just DON'T DO because more bad would come out of it than good.

Ok, here's another YOU MAKE THE CALL...

... 2 outs, runners on 1st and 2nd, first baseman not holding runner on 1st (clearly playing behind runner), pitcher in stretch turns and throws to 1B for pickoff and throws ball away because first baseman not at bag. Runners take off and man on 2nd gets thrown out at the plate. Did he score, was he out, whats the correct call?
