coaches, what are your policies on players missing games? what if they work and a game is re-scheduled for a time they are scheduled to work?

what if a girl has an interview for college, maybe even for a softball scholarship?

I believe if you miss a game you sit a game. There are always exceptions..the main one is a death in the immediate family.

Our hs rules are simple and direct:
miss the practice before a game, dont play that game.(excused or not)
miss a practice in a week of a game, dont start the next game. (excused or not)
two unexcused practices missed, shown the door.

we committed to play a tournament this easter knowing of only one starter being on vacation. week before, we have 7 starters not going to be here for the tournament. coach said fine, you're not here, 40 laps outside the fence completed at one time before you can practice or play again. all of a sudden, we have six starters not going on vacation. its called dedication, or lack of it.

How about stomach bug??---My DD had it, and the coach told her to come anyway......HMMMMMMMMMMMMM...GO FIGURE??....and she didn't play the next game, and didn't start the game after that one....I think Death shouldn't be the only excused reason if your reason is legit....:94poopbanana-thumb1

    Next Level

I know this isn't that exact same thing but for the young ladies that want to go to the nextlevel to consider. My son played D1 baseball and they took it one step further. Rules-- Miss one class, not day, but class and you ran "the hill". Miss 2 classes and you and you immediate workout group ran "the hill" Miss 3 classes and the whole team ran "the hill". Miss 4 classes and you watched the rest of the team run "the hill". Then the team got 15 min. of " disscussion time" with you. At the very begining it was made clear that they would not make any distinction between legit or non- legit reasons. Now I'm sure exceptions were made for death in the family etc, but as far as being sick or not,you were either in class or not. I didn't totally agree with this rule but in his freshman year(which seems to be the toughest transition time) he didn't miss a single class.

I have a rule with my team that regardless the reason you miss practice or late for practice whether it be a death of if you are getting tutored or sick you will make up time missed from practice and you will not step foot on the field until all that all that time is made up. I feel like you are a time and everyone should put in the same amount of time and effort for everyonr to reach a common goal. All my grils know that before the season starts and they accept it.

I have been taught all my life that true leadership starts from the TOP by example, I think that if the coaches misses a day they should do the same as he or she would have their kids do...if I were a kid I would say," Now That Is A Real Leader " !!!----- Thoughts ???
