When a courtesy runner runs for the pitcher or the catcher and scores. Who gets the credit from the official scorer as scoring the run....the runner or the catcher/pitcher the person is running for?

I've lways had trouble with this one.

the catcher/pitcher the person is running for. If it was a pinch runner, a player that enters the game and stays in, then the runner gets credit.

    you mean?

what.........If fast Joe is courtesy runner for slow Bill and Joe scores a run, then Joe does not get credit as having scored a run in the boxscore and final stats ???????????

what if Joe steals a base, does Joe get a SB or does it go to Bill?

I know this is probably old guys but in baseball I give it to the courtesy runner. The scorer for South Caldwell agreed. Stolen bags and everything.

If you read the national high school rule book the Pitcher or Catcher gets credit for the run scored because the runner that come in for them doesn't offically enter the game.

That is the way I read it also and the way we score it on a run.

Just for Kicks, I called the NCHSAA and asked the question and what I was told was Runs, Steals, Etc... by a runner entering for a pitcher or catcher is scored to the pitcher or catcher because the runner is not offically entered into the game. If it were a Pinch Runner then it would be scored to the Runner because they were entered into game
