    No Offense !!!

I much rather have a coach in high school that knows the game in lieu of a Biology Teacher that studies parameciums, and their value to human life...LOL:49:

in travel cheeze states that players come from all over to be on one team. thats a huge advantage to high school that has to take the players that are in their schools. also most high schools have more in the coaching position than a coach that is worried about single celled animals. i believe biology was mentioned. has travel ball made high school ball better. no question. but some on this thread have made it sound like high school ball is terrible. that is simply not true. always remember in school ball there are attendence requirements, academic requirements, and the size of the district. travel ball has no such restrictions. if travel ball had to make teams from regions or counties the situation would be different.

    50-75 TB teams = 600-900 players.

According to the NCHSAA web site there are 360+ high schools in the state. Practically all of them have softball teams. That means those TB players are a small part of 4000+ total high school players. Since schools cannot recruit, they must develop players to be able to rise to the top and survive in the playoffs.

By the third round of the playoffs this year, we will see 4 classifications of 16 teams or about 770 players. Most of these teams will be very comparable in ability with those TB teams. They will also contain many or most of those TB players in one configuration or another.

Which system is better? They both augment each other. The schools, with their 4000 players stimulate interest in the game and teach fundamentals. TB draws from those 4000, providing the ones with the desire and means an opportunity to extend their season and get better. This in turn makes school ball better.

Some things TB doesn't do is create a base of fans (other than parents) and attract media attention. TB also doesn't play real softball (ie. games that aren't ended prematurely with timers, tie-breakers, and drop dead rules). Fans, media, and real games are things the sport needs.

There is a certain amount of team spirit and media coverage that can't be duplicated and this is what makes HS ball so great .but the part of developing players and not recruiting is not true for all HS teams by no means, some very activally do this w/o reguard to exsiting players.

The game of fastpitch softball is supposed to be played to its natural conclusion without time limits, international tie breakers, drop dead rules, or any other speed-up gimmicks. These gimmicks were contrived to enable weekend tournaments to squeeze in more and more teams and increase revenue for tournament organizers.

When two equal teams are facing off and the score is tied at the end of 7, the game is supposed to become a process of wearing each other down through extra innings to see who makes the first mistake, regardless of how much time it takes.

"Real softball" does not use these speed-up rules.
