    newspaper coverage

dogjaw maybe we need to contact the weekly paper to see if they will cover games or the greensboro paper. back in 99thru 2000 the
greensboro paper started covering the games and TheCourier-Tribune started giving some media exposure, you are right baseball and boys basketball always get all the coverage.since they can"t give equal coverage for the girls sports maybe we might want to subscribe to the ones that will

SWR has two seniors that have signed, Nat with Mars Hill and BY with Charleston Southern. of our 6 seniors only those two have signed
Some great talent here and it is sometimes confusing as to the college recruiting process , such as we played a team this year that has a starting pitcher going to Appalachian St. and we beat them 9-0 and 3-0 and one of our pitchers who wants to go there , has great grades and has never lost a game on the hill at states, playoffs or regular season , cant even get them to look at her and we played another team that has there pitcher ,catcher and first base signed with Pfifer and 2 others signed to other colleges(these kids are very good but so are ours) , we beat them 1-0 and 12-1 and Pfifer is not interested in our seniors either ,three colleges have came to other games but they were watching our opponents players(not pitchers)whom we dismantled in other games alot to nothing ,and our seniors made spectacular defensive plays and killed the ball at the plate and still they dont talk to our kids . These same six seniors took our team to the final four as freshman in 04 , a 21-1 record in 05 , final four again in 06 and undefeated so far this year so there names should be known if any colleges pay the least amount of attention to HS ball. THEY DONT.
IF they were all on the same TB team then they would make alot of noise at the college showcase's and probably be all signed but the players here at SWR are on 4-5 different travel teams and unless you are in the championship game at a major showcase you will not have the scouts watching many games .
TB is the only way to go to be seen and signed but you have to be on an A team most of the time to have enough exposure to be seen by enough college scouts as they all have different needs , and if you are a super great player with all the talent in the world but on a weaker TB team you may never get a college scout that has a need for your position or skill to happen to walk by while you are doing you thang ,most of the time you hit that homerun just after they left ,which is about 5 minutes of watching for most scouts , we have had that happen .

Have the SWR kids written the coaches at the colleges they want to play for? It has been my experience that if you write them enough they will come watch you play. Have the travel ball and HS coaches contacted the colleges these kids want to attend and really pushed hard for the kid?

I do agree with you that it is hard to see what some of the college coaches are looking for. I see quite a few so called good programs with very weak teams and it makes people wonder why they cannot get better talent.

    College

From what we have experienced so far is that the college coaches are looking to fill certain positions so they are just looking for those position players. So you may want to see what class the players are that are in your pos. Some will also look for another spot for you to play.I do know that I saw the Knockouts at all the major showcases, Dynamites, Hot Times, etc, but did not see the Rage at any. Coaches want to see you play against good competition, is a better gauge. They will not put much into watching HS ball, unless it is a particular player. Competition level no where near TB. SWR definiately a top team in state, could very well be "the" team . Are my 3A pick, & am looking forward to CC game with them.

:47: if anyone has ever been to a tb tournament and thinks a hs game is as competetive or as exciting has got to be watching with blindfolds on. anyone that could say this apparently has a player just playing hs ball and no tb:189:

    Had very similar experience, dogjaw

Just want to let you know that this doesn't just happen to the girls at SWR! It happens everywhere! But will disagree with you on the fact that you have to be on an A team to be noticed! Not TRUE! Your chances are WAY better at getting seen at TB but you don't have to play for A team! Now it is true that the scouts don't spend a lot of time watching the not so A teams, but has the coach done the "leg work" for his girls, has the coach actually invited a scout or coach to watch his girls? Because sometimes you have to let them know your girls are in the running!

A kid can write til there hand falls off with some coaches!

Sometimes it doesn't matter how often you write a coach, they will not answer! Some coaches are just rude that way! But there are some that may not write back but will stop by and watch if they are at a tournament and have been asked to stop by and watch! A lot of times the only ones that get any attention are the SO CALLED "SUPER STARS"!!! You can't let any obstacle stand in your way, if you want to be noticed then keep inviting them, writing them! Who knows? If you give up, it is for certain that you will not win!
I do not feel that it is RIGHT for college coaches to not respond in some way! It is just RUDE to just ignore some kid's letter! As a representative of the college, they should respond, even if it is to say "sorry, don't need that position right now! At least the kid know to move on!

    Have to disagree, Woody....

You must have never been to Walnut Creek (Raleigh) to watch the "big girls" play in the high school playoffs. Great ball....great talent...no time limits.

Not all high school games are stellar, however, there are some real gems every season...you just need to know which teams to watch and where/when the best matchups are being played.
