Ok. Lee Ammann struck out the side.
On the last strikeout, the ball was CLEARLY fouled off..and Rich Minford, our catcher dropped the ball. Though this was evident to all the players..the umpire signaled a swing and a miss, called strike three and said it was an out. So we all ran off the field.
The man on first (don't remember how he reached) started running around the bases and the batter, who was returning to the dugout, was told to run too, so he made his way all the way to third, and the man on first scored.
The umpire..after he had called the strike out, walked in front of the plate. The field umpire was on his way to talk to the home plate umpire. We all had run in from our positions. And the batter that was called out was returning to his dugout. They ended up scoring again in that inning. 2-0. First inning.

I've never EVER seen a fouled ball, scored as a swing and miss.
NOR have I ever seen a strike out, result in a triple.

Great win for Watauga. I don't think anybody in either set of bleachers understood what was going on when Watauga was headed to the dugout and ACR had two players running around the bases. Horrible piece of officiating. Coach Hardee is first class. I'm not sure many coaches would have held their tongues on a call like that. I'm more impressed with the way Watauga handled the situation than I am upset that the Rockets lost. Its always a pleasure playing hard working, well coached, 1st class programs, even when you get beat.

No argument from me as far as the bizzarre call, however Ammann did not strike out the side. He struck out Hinson looking, Overbey swinging, Paeplow singled up the middle, reaching 1B on a hit, and Wall would've been the 3rd K, had the bizzarre call not been made. Cummings then grounded out 6-3 for the 3rd out (or 4th out). So there was an earned hit between the K's......

the ump made the correct call. the ball was not fouled it bounced in front of home plate, the batter made a check swing which the umpire called a swing and said strike 3 but he did not say "out" as the ball was on the ground and not caught by the catcher. the batter stepped back out of the box but did not return to the dugout and never turned his back on homeplate. it is not an out until the umpire calls it an out strike 3 is not an out if the catcher doesn't catch the ball. the umpire moved in front of the plate and never took his mask off and was watching the play develope instead of walking off the field. it was clear to me that watauga goofed and the final out had not been made. it is not up to the umpire to inform any team that the ball is still live while players run around the bases. when in doubt palyers are taught to make the tag or throw to first of which watauga did neither. the watauga coach i'm sure would tell you the same thing

Sorry to disagree. The batter did go towards the dugout. The pitcher asked for clarification from the ump and he raised his fist pumped it and said batter out.

The batter was told by his coach to run to first after he had already started for the dugout. He thought he had been called out.

The ump in the field was aware of the situation but the plate ump would not ask him. If he made the correct call he should have asked. That would have at least given legitimacy to the call.

The umpire made it clear to the pitcher that the batter was out. No one understood why but in any event the batter should not be able to continue after going toward the dugout and secondly the umpire, after telling the pitcher did walk across the foul line and face the dugout, back to the play, while the runners where advancing.
