It's a little crazy to harp on this call but I would like to comment on what I saw. The batter did not run and the defense did not leave the field initially. This is a normal reaction from a group of individuals that saw a foul tip. Our catcher has thrown down to 1st dozens of times after a strike 3. He knows the rules. He didn't throw because he knew it was tipped. Also, the batter did sart walking to the dugout. It was at that time he saw his coach yelling at him to run to 1st. Bottom line, the ump blew the call, Watauga should have thrown to 1st to be on the safe side, and Reynolds was smart for continuing to play. You live and you learn.

i guess that's why eyewitness testimony is so unrelieable. i saw the batter step back out of the box and look at the umpire. he never got out of the dirt circle onto the grass and never turned his back to the plate. i heard the umpire tell the watauga coach that he said strike 3. strike three is not out 3. i guess there are as many versions as there were people watching.

I hate to quible, but if you "strike out the side" then you have 3 strike outs. They don't have to be in order making it "three up and three down" But I know what you ment.

I am just hung up or confused. If the ball was fouled, and hit in front of the catcher. Then all you have is a foul ball. If he swung and missed, with the ball bouncing in front of the catcher, then you must complete the put out. Please tell me more.

It was a foul ball. Everyone knew it, that's why Lee stood on the field and asked for clarification. When he asked, what's the call..the umpire, made a fist and said, it's an out.

Well if it is bad, it is most likely correct. If it's good it must be a lie.
HEY BRAVES. Think about becoming an umpire... on this post we have heard from several people that must have been at the game but each person's account is slightly different. AMAGINE JUST MAKING A CALL ON A BANGER AT FIRST. No wonder umpires get yelled at all the time.

Well, if I ever became an umpire it would give all of those coaches that I give a hard time a free shot....shoot, I would disqualify all of 'em :cheer:

and with a banger at first....I would check who the home team is first and make the decision accordingly. I'm afraid my agent would not tolerate me very long

    FWIW

My son just got home from the Nike football camp in Athens...had a prom date last night after the ball game, been pretty hectic..first chance we had to really talk. He was the batter last night, he didn't run immediately because he fouled the ball off, no question...saw the ball on the ground and knew his AB was still alive. Credit Coach Craig for seeing the situation and telling him to run. As it turns out, Watauga got us anyway. Hope this helps settle any debate.
