I know there have been threads about all conference. But lets hear some thoughts about player of the year.

Most people will say Madison Bumgarner from South Caldwell, but I dont think he should get it.

Take away Bumgarner from South and they are still pretty good.

In my opinion, Dustin Harrington from Alexander should win it.
If you look at what Harrington has done this year and take him away from his team, then they are probably no where near where they are now.

Harrington has been swinging a hot stick all year and has pitched very well too. In the last two games alone, he has gone 5 for 7 with 4 home-runs, 1 double and 7 RBI's.

Make a case for who you feel should win it.

Having only seen Watauga from the NW4A this season, I am in no position to opine who should win POY.

Thought your point is interesting. If you turn your argument around would you feel the same? An outstanding player from a team that is terrible, yet they still finish at or near the bottom of the league. How valueable would he be? Does it matter that without him they would have still been at the bottom, thus his value to his team minimal?

Frequently a tough decision. Is the award for POY the "most valueable" to his team, or the most outstanding player in the league?

While this has been voted on already, and the info just not released yet, been pondering the same question about the SW4A. Many good canidates without a clear cut (in my mind) favorite. I have been leaning towards someone from the leauge champion in this case.

I think its John Hinson of ACR. After seeing everyone in the NW4A he gets it.

There are so many tough chocies. Mine would be either Madison Bumgarner, John Hinson, Dustin Harrington or Jimmy Messer.

I've got news for you, without Madison Bumgarner, SC is no where near where they are now either.
Plug Zach Brown into Madison's spot and subtract his bat and SC is eating the dust of ACR, AC and maybe even Watauga.
Madison Bumgarner is the NW4A player of the year in a landslide because he was on the bump in all the biggest games.
If Harrington would have pitched against SC, you could make a case for him, but he didn't.

    IMHO

Player of the Year is not most valuable. It also carries an automatic Selection to the classifications All-State Team. Certainly that should go to the Conference's best player/performer for the current season, whether he is on the 1st place team or last place team. However, to me a stud on a 1st place team would arguably have an advantage over a stud on a lower tier team from any conference.

In my opinion Bumgarner is the 2nd best player in all of North Carolina behind TC Roberson's Justin Jackson, and I think he should win conference player of the year.

However, for argument's sake, it's true that Messer is 10-0 while Bumgarner is only about 6-2 and has been on the mound for both of South Caldwells losses.

I know the comeback to that will be that its because Madison takes the mound in their toughest games and that is a valid point. I'm just pointing out that Messer has had a great season too.

As far as how valuable madison is to the team, he's very valuable. If clemson signee justin poovey wasnt hurt this year itd be easy to say that SC would probably be one of the favorites to win the state even without bumgarner. but with poovey hurt, SC wouldnt be anything near the team they are if they didnt have madison.

    madison bumgarner for NW4A POY

If they had a "Pitcher of the Year", it would be Jimmy Messer. But POY?...not even close. Hinson and Harrington are outstanding players; it's unfortunate they play in the same conference as Madison Bumgarner. The kid is the most "feared" batter in the state. Now, comparing Bumgarner to those others, offensively, is like comparing Bonds (in his prime) to Pujols...all outstanding. The difference is that this "Bonds" can pitch like Clemens, too.

I know this is a different topic, so bear with me, but I'm curious. Why?
