    Congratulations to North Davidson

Congrats go to North Davidson as Zach White unplugs Davie's buzz saw. After going through Mt. Tabor and West Forsyth like a buzz saw, Zach White limited Davie to only 2 runs and I think only 3 hits tonight to win the CPC tournament.

Was a good game to watch (of course I had to say that being from West Forsyth and seeing Davie lose.... [IMG] LOL [IMG]). Several good defensive plays by both teams and several fundamental at bats (moving players up and hitting to right side with runners on third) in tonight's game.

Take away a squeeze play that went awry (but it was oh so close to being down) and it might have been totally different outcome..

Again congrats to North Davidson on winning and Davie for being there to play in the championship game. Good luck to the CPC as the tournament starts!

You just know that East Forsyth has to be wondering "Why me?" right now. They win their conference & earn the #1 seed. Their reward? A #5 opponent....Davie Co....who is redhot right now. That makes Zach White's effort last night all the more impressive. He had great defensive support, but Zach continues to distinguish himself as a big-game pitcher.

I've watched the CPC closely now for 10 years. This is by far the best I've seen. Loaded with pitching & hitting & defense. And D1 prospects abound.

We have a friend who is highly regarded Shortstop at a 2A school who will play at the D1 level (08 grad). But someone pointed out this kid would place no better than 6th in the CPC right now. That's not an insult to our friend....that's the state of the CPC right now. And that's just impressive!

    Question

How was Davie's pitching? Strange to be starting a soph in such a big game. Is the carter that good or did Davie just run out of pitching? Just wondering why a soph would be pitching? How did he pitch? Thanks for the replies.

    Conference seedings

So the seedings play out like this:

    1) West Forsyth (vs. Wild Card)
    2) North Davidson (vs. PAC 6 #5 - Northern Durham?)
    3) East Rowan (vs. MECA 6 #3 - Central Cabarrus?)
    4) Mt. Tabor (vs. METRO #3 - NW Guilford?)

    5) Wild Card Davie County (vs. METRO #1 - East Forsyth?)

South Rowan is still in the mix for a Wild Card too, from what I understand.

I don't know why Davie pitched Carter but he did an excellent job (as he has done year). As I stated earlier, both teams played well, North Davidson executed some timely hitting and fundemental baseball and created some good breaks for themselves.

If I'm not mistaken, Carter pitched in an earlier 4-2 loss to ND. So he matches up well. He battled hard before North broke the game open late.

Don't forget that Davie was forced to use 2 starters Friday night in the tough 9 inning battle with West F. That may have impacted pitching decisions.

It was actually Carter's turn in the rotation. He pitched the complete game win over West Forsyth last Tuesday, Tom Kuell pitched against Mt. Tabor on Thursday, and Bryan King started the game against West on Friday. Carter came in relieve in that game for about 2 innings, before Matt Oswell closed out the last 3 innings. Haven't seen the numbers in the last 2 weeks, but up until then Carter had actually logged the most innings of anyone, had the lowest .ERA and had more K's than all of the Davie pitchers combined (somewhere around 70). He picked up the loss last night, so his only 2 losses have been to North Davidson and against White in both games.

Dakota, those of us ND fans standing behind homeplate (including Zach White's dad) all agreed that Carter is going to be tough in the future. Already is tough, but his upside will be fun to watch. He's a gamer who never looked overwhelmed. I wish he attended high school in Welcome!

Since you were at home plate, how far fair was Zach's non-home run? I was sitting on the hill just to the 1st base side of the plate covering the game, and it looked fair by eight feet.
