It's been quiet around here the past couple weeks, are there any news on the various coaching vacancies in the area?

I can give a little update on the McDowell girls basketball situation...the job was posted two weeks ago but has now been taken off the board. I would assume the interview process willl begin soon and that a decision will be made before the kids go home for the summer.

It is not official yet, but the Lady Pioneers have a new coach. Klay Anderson, Boys JV coach at WHS, will be named head coach next Tuesday pending board approval. This is just another GREAT :001_9898: hire for WHS. Not only does coach anderson have no varsity experience, he has never coached girls. I am afraid that it will be another long season for WHS girls.

    WHS Coach

    WHSHOOPSFAN,
Anderson may be one of the better all-round coaches at WHS. He was strongly considered for the head football coach's position. Snow got it. His JV basketball teams have performed extremely well. How many JV coaches used everyone on the bench every game during the season and still won? How many years has he coached on the JV level and produced winning teams. The guy is a good coach. The search committee that selected him consisted of people who have previously coached. I don't think they would give Anderson the job if they didn't think highly of him.

I guess you wanted a coach with varsity experience, which is fine. But don't bash Anderson until he's had a chance to prove himself.

Being personally involved with the girls program, I thought I might chime in a little. I am a little disappointed in the whole process and hiring. Nothing against Coach Anderson, but I don't think it was the right move for the girls. Klay is a great coach and did a great job as the JV Boys coach. I hope that the team experiences some success, because the girls deserve it. They have worked really hard to get to where they are at, and I hope they are able to improve on it and be successful.

Good luck coach and good luck ladies. I will be pulling for you and supporting you in every game!

As for McDowell, I heard the new coach would be named on May 21st. They would be crazy not to hire Coach Silver back. Coach Brooks would be great hire and a well deserved one at that. Schools should reward coaches who have put the time and effort into helping the program. i thought Snead resigned because of family reasons? He was a great coach and would do very well at McDowell. I hope his family is fairing well.

Bigdan, get us the scoop!! We need to know what is going on.

Yeah, May 21st may be the day we need to keep our eyes and ears open...the Art Snead rumors are just that as far as I know. He stepped down at Reynolds for a reason and that hasn't changed.

    New WHS Coach

Some positive attitudes are needed from fans for this program. Sounds like some of you live to do nothing but gripe.

Try supporting the program, coach and team in a positive manner.

These negative posts about Coach Anderson are absolutely ridiculous and infuriating!!! Do you want to know why WHS can't get a girls basketball coach in here with varsity experience? Because NOBODY wants the job!!! It is no secret how difficult it is to run the girls program at this high school! He hasn't even been officially named as the coach and the griping has already started! Coach Anderson is one of the finest coaches in this state - he is hard working, driven, respected by his players and students and a man of tremendous integrity. It is a privilege to have a child play under his leadership and you are no fan of "WHS hoops" if you are throwing him under the bus before he has a chance to prove you wrong! If you don't like how athletics are handled here, then take your child to a neighboring high school.
