State Games ?????

I know that most of the coaches, when it comes to the pitchers will not ask them to throw if they felt that their arm needed rest due to pitching a game before hand. But they still come to the tryout. But the rules state you must be a the tryout. I am sure if their was a death of a family member or something along those lines the coach would grant some type of other tryout form. But I do not see this as a big case. How many players over the years have had this happen. I know it is few and far between. If it was a college or pro tryout (I know not the same) another tryout would be granted. Stud or not.

 

My son played on the Region 6 Championship team in 03. By the time the Games rolled around the following year he had already committed to a school and decided not to tryout in order to give some of the lesser known players that were still looking for a place to play an opportunity. Maybe this is the case with the "big names" of 07. By the rules, a player must attend at least 1 tryout in order to be selected regardless of his stature.

 

That sounds like a grand plan. Since all these scouts are there. They need to be looking at unsigned talent. Maybe a requirement that any player that is signed cannot tryout. It is about being seen right???

 

My son played on a fall team his senior year in high school with the player to whom you refer. Good ballplayer. No question, this young man was certainly good enough to have earned a spot on the SG roster. But if I'm not mistaken, when my son went throught the SG tryouts his junior and senior years, players were told by the coaches they would receive a phone call only if they made the team.

 

There are alot of Pro guys there as well.

 

Private School

What about private school guys do they get the same fair shot... Because most people do not follow their seasons or not as close for sure. They have to really show out to make the team

 

They have the same opportunity as public school players

 

Good Experience

I was fortunate enough to play in both the junior games with region 6 and also played for the west allstars back in high school. This was an awesome experience that I will always remember. I went even though I had just signed the week before. For those that have signed and contemplating whether to still go I would say to go because it is an experience you have earned and one you will not soon forget. Plus, college is a business and you never know when you might be unhappy and want to transfer. This added exposure could open some avenues.

I think we are on to something here. If they were to add two more teams for seniors. State into four regions and add two more underclassmen regions. That would give the signed and unsigned, the public as well as private, the known and less known a chance. That is only a total of forty more players. I know that there is some scout that is there, from a smaller school that would love to get a player that is not super stud. I do not think it would dilute the talent. It may even show that hidden star.

 

So Coach, how do public HS coaches follow private school kids throughout the season? It's been said here that coaches watch how they perform against or for their teams throughout the season. How are coaches able to follow a private school kid? I agree they have the same chance at the tryout.

And no, I don't have a kid in private HS.
