Obstruction all the way. Unless the ball is closer to the catcher than the runner is, it is obstruction and no matter what happens, the runner is safe.

If the ball arrives, no obstruction. If the ball does not arrive, no obstruction if the runner can touch the plate even with a collision. If the catcher holds the runner off the plate until the ball arrives, then obstruction.

This catcher is not in a good position. She is setting up too deep.

    Wrong !!!

The ball does not have to be in the players possession, but it has to be coming toward the defensive player @ the bag that she is playing...in other words the ball is in the outfield the catcher can't stand in front of the plate, and block the runners from scoring, if the ball has transversed into the infield, and is heading home, and the runner is heading toward the plate this is considered a play at home ( like your picture ),this is not blocking...but lets say there is no play at second base, and the S.S. runs into the runner trying to advance to third, and the ball is no where around the S.S. this is blocking to an umpires point of view...a lot of times it's an interpretation call by the umpire....:beatnik2:

no obstruction. clearly the catcher is making a "play on the ball".
