If a pitcher begins to start her motion and a batter calls for time and backs out of box and the pitcher stops her pitch umpire does not call time would it be an illegal pitch or what would happen since the batter backed out of box ?

    Remember

Remember once the pitcher toes the rubber, and winds up she must finish the delivery, unless prior to the windup the umpire calls time or gives time to the batter. If the batter calls time and the umpire does not acknowledge her time the pitcher can continue to pitch no matter if the batter has stepped out of the batters box or not...if the ball is a strike it is awarded to the batter as strike....It is important to get the umpires attention when you want time..can't be shy !!!!

but if the pitcher stops when the batter steps out of the box would it be an illegal pitch or would it be ruled that the batter can not cause the illegal pitch to happen?

    YES

If there is no time called, and the batter jumps in out of the box ,and the pitcher stops her pitch it is an illegal pitch....the batter can not force an illegal pitch..the pitcher is not focused if she is effected by what the batter does in the box...

As a former high school and college umpire we were always told in this situation you will not let a batter cause an illegal pitch. If the batter steps out and time is not granted and the pitcher stops her motion you should not call an illegal pitch, grant time immeadiately. This is what every umpire should be taught if they are taught well.

Good call fmrump! The batter should not be rewarded if she messed the pitcher up by stepping out during the delivery. The batter should never step out until time is granted.
