    outstanding Team......

Congratulations to all and to especially some Home Girls...Nat and Mo!

some impressive Western Players on this year's team and believe others will consider trying-out for many years to come after this All Star Showcase event pans out in 2007, plus a first time Regional double elimination tournament to boot....attend and judge for yourself.

lighter note but equally as special....alot of wonderful players choose not to participate in this event.....we still love ya and wish you the best at the collegiate level TOO!

    State Games Selection

Congrats to all that made the teams but I feel the State needs to look at the way they conducted this and change their ways for next year. There are a number of mistakes that have already been made can't wait to see what else happens. Here are just a few observations so far.

    1. When you have a State game tryout and the coaches are coaches from high school teams and they pick the teams, you are not going to get fair picks. The teams should be picked by people who are not coaching HS softball then let the coaches have the team. If you have coaches that don't care for other coaches it goes against that schools good players.

    2. Tryouts were in multiple locations to serve all areas of the state, it seems some girls were told they needed to attend all tryouts or they weren't told that and if you did go to more than one you made the team. Some girls were playing HS games over some of the weekends and couldn't attend but one tryout. Thinking that was ok, that is how the information read, one tryout for the different areas. Some really good talent was not picked for whatever reason and some that are mediocre were picked that went to multiple tryouts. True Coaches can tell in one tryout if the player is good or not. True tryouts are one try like the paper work stated and it should be the one nearest your area only unless approved by state due to conflicts and that player can't make the one closest to them.

Maybe we should have waited another year before trying to have State Games until everyone knew what they were doing. To much mixed information and none of it in the original information packet.

thanks for joining and sharing your thoughts with us here.

i witnessed the Western team tryouts and i and a few others dont coach HS ball so the first assumation is wrong.

Tryouts are; as you mentioned, difficult with teams playing and not to mention other events that happen at this time of the year so this point is well taken and surely will be addressed for future reference. We have the best two coaches in this state and would put them up there in the REGION for that matter. 12 spots for a Western NC team......i take the next 12 and Play.....Great Talent and dedicated players who will be just a sucessful as those who Choose not to even tryout for whatever or the same reason(s)you referred to.

where did you hear about tbr softball or what inspired you to joined? just curious.:55:

    Tryouts

Choosing players for a team like the State Games is a no win task. There will always be parents whose DD missed out play the 'ol home cookin card. I probably would be one of those folks. I've got a buddy who is so far off base on things that thank GOD he can't use a computer. BUT with respect to your post, he made the suggestion that the TRYOUTS be the format for which college coaches attend, observe, etc. Then whether my DD or your DD is part of the last cut, your/my opinion of DDs play will be the same thing thar said college coach observed. Way over my head but it does make some sense.

    Great job

Pop, great job pulling all this together! Got to start somewhere and learn from mistakes and enjoy all the things U did right from start!
Let's let the girls enjoy playing and the fact they made the team. Heck, allstar teams are always challenged, no matter who choose them. Look at the various pro allstar games.

Good luck to all the coaches, players, and families should be a great time for all.
