TJ21 - you noticed the "baseball buzz" that's been going on for a LONG time in Caldwell County.

I'm not sure when it started ... I remember when Coach Lanford was coaching at Hudson High School. And then he moved to South Caldwell when Granite Falls and Hudson were combined. Those Hudson teams, and later the South Caldwell teams, were ALWAYS excited about baseball. AND they could play the game ...

I believe this also points out one of the GREAT attributes of the TBR prep group ... they REALLY enjoy a well-played game by young people who enjoy and respect their sport.

Good luck to South Caldwell in the finals ... and thanks for reminding this old(er) fellow about the Coach Lanford era. Maybe some of the Caldwell County people can provide a historical perspective sometime ...

Coach Landford is certainly responsible for building the baseball tradition at Hudson High and South Caldwell and Jeff Parham has certainly done a fine job of carrying on that tradition. Not only was coach Landford a great baseball coach he was a excellent basketball coach at Hudson as well. Don't remember the exact numbers on wins in baseball, but I do know its over 500. That's remarkable...just my opinion, I don't think Caldwell County would have the baseball tradition we have today if it was not for Fred Landford. That said, don't want to take anything away from Jeff Parham who is a very good baseball coach and South Caldwell is lucky to have him, but what makes Coach Parham special, he is a even better man and his players will testify to that. Parham played for Landford on his 82 North Carolina State title team

That's where I found Braves. I figured he would be up there with the hard core fellas. I had to watch for the sticker bushes and poison oak up there. It was funny watching Madison's dad up there bird dogging foul balls too.

My in-laws live in Cajahs Mountain just a few miles away and we made the drive over to be witness to that great crowd. Great ball game too. Bumgarner was on big time and it still ended up a one run game. Fifteen strikeouts - I knew he had a lot but didn't realize it was that many. He tried to give me one of those moon shot home runs a couple times too but he got under both balls for mile high pop ups.

Good to see my ol friend Braves again. That TBR sign was great. Wishing I had a sharpie so I could have put my "wossa" on there.

Good luck to the Spartans in the next round.

Wossa, I am very dissappointed that I did not get to meet you Sat. I was sitting beside Braves with the Bums on the hill when you walked up. I just now realized that was you. Always like to meet fellow posters. Maybe Braves will introduce you next time. I thought maybe he didn't want people to know who you are. Just Kidding. Oh, by the way, I also live in Cajah's Mtn.

I'm sorry, Ball-dee. I explained to him he was in sacred territory and needed to keep a low profile, so as not to be escorted off. :laugh4:

Plus, he had his wife with him and I know the rules

yeah they run some tight security up there on the hill. I had to slip the guy at the gate a twenty to let me in. When I told him I knew Braves he hit me for another twenty. When he realized I was bringing my wife in it cost me another ten.

I better save up for my next trip to The Rock.

good luck to your Spartans Ball-dee. They have a great ball team.
