Football game in July in GBoro

    I'll be heading to GBoro for a HS all star game on July 18th...anyone got some details on this? I've never been to it before.

    It's the East West Shrine Bowl Game at Grimsley Stadium....game time is 8 PM

    Pits the Senior All Stars from NC from the East vs West...

    Great game to watch!

    these are the outgoing Seniors, correct? They head to college (or not) after this game?

    I am doing play-by-play for this game, so any info on what this is all about is greatly appreciated.

    By the way, the game will be available (free) on Carolina On Demand (for you cable subscribers) not long after the game is played--there is NO LIVE telecast for this.

    It's during the annual state coaches convention. In addition to the football game they play boys and girls basketball and soccer all star games. It's been going on for years. I remember as a kid my mom helped our church make food for the coaches meeting.

    It used to be a really big deal. Especially the basketball game. In the days before all the summer camps and other national all star games the North Carolina game was big. Stars like Worthy, Jordan, Wilkins, etc would play in it. Now they are limited to how many all star games they can play so the really big names skip it.

    Same for football - the really big names skip it because of the injury risk. Every once in a while a big time player will compete. But the caliber of competition is still pretty good. Usually draws a big crowd.

    Look us up dude - a few beers before or after sounds good.
