What process is followed to determine the Coach Of The Year?
    + Is there a vote?
+ Are there certain criteria to meet?
+ Does following district rules factor in?
+ Is the coach observed interacting with his/her team, at practices as well as games?
+ Is a winning record the only critia?

Who is involved in deciding who gets awarded Coach Of The Year?
+ Is this decision made by the coaches peers?
+ Is there a panel of impartial, unbiased people?
+ Have the people on this panel coached?

Are the players of Coach Of The Year polled or surveyed?
+ Are the opinions of the players, of the coaches up for the award, taken into consideration?
+ How about things such as Returning Player Ratios?
+ Should not the players being coached not have a vote?

If researched, What Characteristics Should a Good Coach have or display?
A Good Coach should be: a teacher, a mentor, a motivator, Knowledgable, Approachable, Communicator, Dedicated, Respectful, Trustworthy, Diverse, Fair.
A Good Coach should be an additional member of each players support system.
A Good Coach treats all players equally.
A Good Coach listens, as well as, talks.
A Good Coach honors individual skills, as well as, team skills.
A Good Coach offers constructive criticism, as well as, praise and acknowledgment for achievements and effort of players.
A Good Coach shows respect for the players, as well as, expects respect from the players.
A Good Coach shows kindness, strength, sensitivity, courage, caring, determination, loyality, and fairness.
A Good Coach NEVER discriminates, uses detrimental comments to a player, compares one player, against another, has different rules, for different players.

We see posts on TBR, all the time, about coaches, defending and/or offending. We read posts on TBR, all the time, about parents and their involvement or lack of. Should coaches be held to a higher standard? Shouldn't parents care how their child is treated? Shouldn't it be harder to be a leader, than a follower? Should a player be judged by a parents actions? Should a coach be judged by a players actions?
I would like each who reads this thread, to stop and think about each of the issues that have been placed in this thread, good and bad, and post only responses to the posted questions. Please do not name anyone coach or player! Enjoy the thread, and the discussins that may be posted on it.

If you notice most "COACHES OF THE YEAR" are winning coaches, but my opinion the definition of a "COACH OF THE YEAR" should incorporate his entire being as a person, how he contributes to society, how he treats his fellow man,etc........I think the proper and honest way to pick a player of the year would be to allow people that do not know the individual to take his or her stats, likes and dislikes, clubs that they might be involved in,and how they treat their fellow man,and pick one.....politics get in the way 99% of the time, and sometimes chokes out the "REAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR" !!!!

What in the world do likes, dislikes and involvement in clubs have to do with being a POY. The only thing that should matter is softball.....

What do you do then if there is a great player who is not involved in any clubs. You gonna penalize her for that. Maybe they would rather practice instead of going to a club meeting, maybe they think clubs are just stupid.

Player of The Year was not a part of my thread!

My thread does not include Player Of The Year, just Coach Of The Year!
Player Of The Year is a different subject all together, IMO!
I just want opinions on the Coach Of The Year, issues! Thanks Guru I agree that a persons entire self should be judged, as to whether they would or should coach or not!!
