    Pleeaaasssseeee...

Well to start with, if it is something on fire that is important to our communities, then YES I kinda do expect the NEWS stations to cover it!
Someone apparently isn't watching tv everytime they break in to cover a business/apartment fire, car wreck, that happens anywhere they can fly that hellicopter to! You probably don't have DDs or you just don't care! God knows they cover every highlight, of every boys sport, known to the human race! They have even dedicated an extra part of their news Friday nights for football! Oh but maybe they see that as the FAIR way to cover sports! We are just plain trying to get attention placed on a subject, that we feel passionate about and you are being sarcastic, thanks you have been loads of help! I hope if you own something that catches on fire, that someone (Joe Public) cares enough, to call the tv station to cover it for you!

    girls sports

Back in April about 5 days before the SWR/ CC game I emailed FOX 8 in High Point telling them of the upcoming game, how it would probably be the most exciting softball game in this area I even gave them CC's website if they wanted to check out their outstanding record and also gave the SWR AD"s name and cell phone # the night of the game I asked the AD if anyone from Fox 8 had called and he said no. after waiting about a week I emailed the station and complained why no coverage & why no one even checked in to it their response from the anchor that I emailed was that he turned it over to the sports director and they didnT have any body to cover the game I think if they would get off their duffs and get out of the studio instead of running wire reports they could cover more local sports

    Statesoftball coverage

I guess I need to add that on Friday June 1st before leaving for Raleigh I set the recorder for 10 pm for Fox 8 and at 11 pm for Wfmy TV 2 to see if either one covered the games Fox 8 did give coverage on ND,CD & SWR but no coverage to NM which should be in their viewing area also Sat. June 2 they gave coverage. No coverage from Wfmy TV 2 either night

The NCHSAA sends emails to media, print radio and TV. Whether or not they are on the list might be a question, but there is a way they could have received the information without having to rely on viewers to call-in.

According to the NCHSAA website, it does not list WBTV as one of their TV stations. Again, maybe they are not on the list, but that can be easily remedied with an email to Raleigh.

Softball is big in our eyes, but in the big picture it is not. I have another daughter that Swims and that sport - even with more in attendance and participation than softball, both boys and girls, High School and College level, there is absolutely ZERO coverage unless it is the Olympics. If the news says to send in the results and they will be happy to air it, then jump all over it. Softball gets much more coverage than other sports. While I would like to see more, I am happy that it gets some. I have all girls, btw, and find girls sports in general dont get enough coverage, but it is getting better all the time.

    Kids shouldn't have to....

While I respect your post, Kids shouldn't have to make the Olympics to get recognigtion for hard work and sweat and effort. Just like girls should not have to make the Womens World Series to get recognigtion!
Local news is called local for a reason! If the tv stations can cover every highlight, for every HS football and basketball team on the East Coast, then they should be able to cover girls softball as well, along with swimming, volleyball, golf, tennis, etc... Like I said the news is on every weekday evening for 1 1/2 hours, give some portion of that time to covering local HS sports boys AND GIRLS! They have made time for football and basketball for boys, why not the girls?
I don't feel that it is that hard to be FAIR if you choose to be FAIR!
Maybe we just need to flood their emails with information we (Joe Public) thinks should be covered by OUR LOCAL News! If we continue to do nothing, nothing is what will be accomplished!

    Get used to it.....

    News Flash.....
It doesn't get any better at the collegiate level.....
If you don't call it in....it doesn't make the paper or TV.
Softball is not high on the list....

If your dd is fortuntate enough to make a college roster,
be nice to the school's Sports Information Director (SID) ...

Is it fair?, absolutely not...but it is the way it is...
