    well well wrong

First of all OLJones, all coaches nominations are considered. Not just the member coaches. Secondly, and last from me, whats wrong with a system that allows for equal opportunity, by the coaches, to send info. to a district, who then sends it on to the states? Fastpitch, or for that matter, all girls sports, need all of the positive attention that they can get. I see this approach as a move in the right direction.

Well now OLJ, lets see how many negative comments are going to come flying out of the peanut gallery. I guess everybody has a better idea except for the ones who are out there with their sleeves rolled up and actually getting it done! :ack2:

    just a question though

So, if it isn't just all political, how does a coach justify nominating a player who only played in 3-4 games total season and was then out with an injury being chosen for all conference and all district? You would think that it would have to be based on a players ability to play throughout the entire season or at least a majority of the games.

Injury shouldn't disqualify a player. A good player is a good player. If she's played enough games to prove herself against some good competition it shouldn't matter. It doesn't take long for most good coaches (or anyone else) to spot truely superior talent.

Of course, that's not to say that your case is that kind of situation.

    Worked Hard For

With the exception of a couple, all the names I recognize, I will see some time or other at a ball field this summer playing in 90+ degree heat all day.So if they out perform others who do not, then I feel that it is well deserved. I'm sure there are some whose names did not appear that should have been. Congrats to the ones who worked hard and deserve it !!!!!!!

    What??

You've got to be kidding, BB, You mean to say that a player that has a couple of good years is allowed to play a few games and take a spot of one that may have worked her butt off and played the whole schedule for all conference honors? So if anyone's DD has a couple of good games next year she should shut it down and expect the awards to come rolling in? I hate it when a player especially a gifted player gets injured, but just like the next level, it's an opportnity for someone else to "step-up". I'm with you MD on this one, and I know you are sitting close to this one.

    Peyton Manning, Michael Jordan

Players come in all levels of talent. Thats a fact. If a kid gets hurt, tries to get better, attends practice, then comes back for 3 or 4 games and at her 80% level, spanks around the opposition, DAMN right, she's ALL-DISTRICT. As for the majority of of players, who, God bless them, are at best above average, and their folks think that everybody who thinks that their kid is not the heat, will always fall into the BIG pool of really good ballplayers. No slander here, just facts. As hard as it is parents, your expectations of your DD may outweigh their true talent level. ALL-XYZ team stuff is when the mamas and daddys keeping the book start crying. If your DD is deserving of accolades, they will come. We all hope the best for our kids. As for me, I should be pitching for the yankees. If that awful HS coach would have.....

    out & back

I agree that if a player is coming back off an injury and shows that she still has hers stuff after being sidelined all season, then yeah she should be rewarded. But if a girl plays early 3-4 games total, out for entire rest of 20 games and the other players on the team step up, move positions and continue to play through the season, don't you think that they should be the ones who are recognized for their ENTIRE contribution. I hate to see players get injured, but I LOVE to see others step up and continue to play knowing that they are going to have to come together to continue their trip. THEY should be the ones who are recognized. JMO.

and just for FYI, I don't keep the books for our school, travel teams, etc. so it's not that I am crying because my DD stats (padded or non padded) did not get picked, but I just feel that the ones who were on the field playing should be the ones recognized and the coaches who are making these recommendations should think about that.

    I hear ya MD

Your points on this are very reasonable. My post intent was "in general terms" not personal. I do appologize to you for the miscommunication here but I stand by my opinion that hard work will payoff in the end. If the "end" is being ALL-XYZ, so be it. If the "end" is a kid growing character by learning that lifes not fair and full of obstacles, all the while keeping a great attitude, that would be my player of the year.
